This is exactly what the Celtics fate should be when their best player plays hot potato with the ball and all they do is shoot three's.

When was the last time a championship team was taken to 7 by a team that is under .500? No chance the Celtics win the title

Antoine Walker would have never let this happen.

Direckshun
05-02-2008, 09:02 PM
What Celtics team, from what planet, was that in the 4th quarter?

They went in a 5 minute streak without scoring.

Garnett turned the ball over three times in that streak.

Pierce bizarrely fouled out.

Allen missed about 10 straight shots.

They couldn't run any smart plays in the last twenty seconds. Down by two, they go for a crazy three from the other side of the planet by Allen. Down by three with seven seconds to go, Rondo holds the ball just before time expires.

The Hawks were absolutely amazing tonight, but the Celts could have shut them out.

Brewer is so raw offensively. He's already shown flashes of being a very good defender, but he has no offensive game right now. He probably was picked too high, but he will be a good defender in this league, even if his upside is Bruce Bowen.

Charles Barkley, whom I do not have the highest regard for, said that the winner of the Lakers-Jazz series would take all. Lakers are ranked #1 seed in the west, but since Jan 1 2008 the NBA's 2 best teams are Houston (40-10) and Utah (38-12). Utah just dispatched the NBA's hottest team, so this matchup is going to be SIZZLING. I am huge Jazz fan but look for this one to go 7 games. I know everyone in the universe is picking the Kobies, but I believe Utah can overpower LA's high-scoring finesse game with its physical intimidation and at least 7 players who can get into double figures on any given night.

I've thought they've been for real since January. But like most people thought they'd go belly up in the playoffs being that their a young team with no playoff experience.
I think this series may go 6-7 and if they get by SA they have to be a serious contender.

You need Boozer to stop playing like an idiot. He needs to stop with these awful passes/TOs and start attacking Gasol in the post. He went way from what was working. In the opening minutes of the game, he took the ball to the hole and had Gasol in quick foul trouble. Now he is afraid to go to the hoop. Quit shooting jumpers and use some power.

Direckshun

I'm basing this on the Celts' season. Every extended homestand, every extended road trip, and of course Game 1 a series ago, the Celts have come out hard in the first game.

Basileus777
05-06-2008, 07:00 PM
This is Cavs basketball. Cleveland lays up so many bricks that the opponent gets sucked in too. Its an elaborate trap.

Direckshun
05-06-2008, 07:36 PM
Celts are up at the half, primarily to Garnett.

Pierce only has 2 points, which is not surprising. The Celts feature three superstars, so they can rely on Garnett and Allen to carry their offense while Pierce can concentrate all his energy on guarding LeBron. This is all predetermined.

Where the Celts are surprised is Ray Allen, who's 0-2, 0 points right now. Rondo stepped up for him with 15 points in the first half, but Rondo is not a 30 ppg guy. Allen needs to start getting some shots, because Garnett can't carry the offense.

Direckshun

Nobody else can shoot the damn ball right now outside of Rondo and Garnett. Ray Allen really needs to step up. There's no excuse for such a poor line considering the minutes he's played.

Pierce is absorbed right now in taking down LeBron, who's still on pace to have a good game despite of that. The Celts' leaning off of Pierce for the first time in however long seems to have disrupted their game.

Are Pierce and Allen even playing? Perkins has had more of an impact on this game.

Direckshun
05-06-2008, 07:57 PM
Well they've done a decent job shutting down LeBron, who's done nothing but rack up personal fouls in the 3rd.

But Big Z really needs more attention than the Celts are paying. He's one of those guys at 7'1" that can score in several situations, including far away from the basket. If you can't clamp him down, than you're allowing the Cavs to stay with you all the way down to LeBron Time -- the last five minutes of the game.

Direckshun
05-06-2008, 07:59 PM
Pierce and Allen combined: 1-11, 2 points.

Basileus777
05-06-2008, 08:01 PM
Boston just shoots too many jump shots. And Garnett keeps passing up hook shots and layups and passing the ball to lesser players like Perkins.

That just plays right into Cleveland's hand. This has been their pace all night. Imagine now if LeBron just explodes for 10 or 12 points...this game would be over. I just can't ever understand KG. Nobody on Cleveland can guard him yet he keeps shying away from scoring.

I've got a stat so far for anybody who thought Cleveland's midseason roster overhaul was a bad idea:

Wally Szczerbiak, Ben Wallace, Delante West, Joe Smith:

20 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists

Direckshun
05-06-2008, 08:06 PM

Direckshun
05-06-2008, 08:11 PM

Wow. This is not exactly a barn burner.

53-52 at the start of the 4th.

I'd say keep feeding the ball to Pierce every time LeBron is on him if the Cavs bring him out to start the game. Pierce getting some easy shots against LeBron or putting LeBron in foul trouble would get this game back on track.

But Ray Allen is choking in ways unheard of. 0 points. 0-4 shooting. No assists. This is scary bad. Garnett may have to carry this team across the finish line.

So many things can happen for the Celtics to bust this game open.

Garnett can go on a tear like he has so many times before.

Pierce or Allen can find their stroke.

Powe or Cassell can start contributing seriously.

Tony Allen or Posey can find their shot from the outside.

LeBron can get a 5th foul.

They just need one of these things to happen and the game goes their way.

The Cavs are a good matchup for the Celts. Any team that relies on half court offenses and superstars like the Cavs do are a good matchup for the Celtics.

The Pistons are a fair matchup for them, the Magic are a great matchup for them.

In the West, the Lakers would be very tough to beat for them. The Jazz would be real tough but again, they're big half court guys who rely on Deron Williams. The Hornets would be a nightmarish matchup. All told, the Spurs would probably be the best matchup for the Celts in the finals.

The Cavs starters are playing the Celts starters toe-to-toe. They kicked the C's asses in the first quarter and are keeping up with them now, it's the Celts' depth that's kept the Celts in this game.

Without Allen, the Celts don't have a reliable gunner from the outside to open up the paint. Pierce isn't any help against the Cavs because he's absorbed with LeBron.

I dont ever like to complain about the ref's but wtf kind of ejection was that. I have seen MUCH MUCH harder fouls this post season where quite a few people did NOT get thrown out. That guy just twisted wrong and fell awkward. Bull****ingshit on that ejection.

Jazz looking pretty solid right now without ANY help from Okur.

I think this game is the Jazz's, but of course anything can happen in the second half.

The Jazz are the Celtics of the West: virtually unbeatable at home, weak on the road.

The Lakers are killing themselves with missed free throws.

Kobe with an amazing buzzer beating shot to tie the game at 55 all

Is it just me or does it seem like Derek Fisher never misses a shot?

Jazz up by only two, nearing the end of the third.

Hell of a game we have here. Jazz up by 5, 4th quarter starting very soon.

Kobe hobbling all over the court, but still playing pretty well on offense.

Right now he's the only one generating consistent offense for the Lakers. Everything's going through him. The Jazz go up when he's on the bench. Kobe comes in and the Lakers catch up.

Kobe will need to bring this team home single-handedly. Otherwise, the Jazz's power game and outside shooting is just too reliable for the Lakers to keep up with.

Jerry Sloan is just a kickass coach, by the way. One of the most consistent coaches at devising game schemes and finding talent that there is.

Lakers have zero depth with Turiaf out.

Turiaf sucks anyway, but you should watch the guy filling in for him. Ugh.

Farmar is just playing retarded. Good lord that guy has melted in the bright lights.

Jazz up by nine, pulling away with Kobe on the bench. Mainly because Korver can get open without a healthy Kobe hounding him, and it's opening up everything.

He's ok at best. They drafted Crittenton to replace him in the lineup.

I don't know, I've liked how scrappy he plays. He can be a pretty good passer.

Just has committed turnover after turnover in this series, though.

Kobe back in. Can he play a full nine minutes?
