I think DaFace (or another mod) is tired of losing members due to the growing growing lack of respect for each other as people. As a small gesture against that tide of uncivility the mod removed tags since they were being used by some as a way of taking an anonymous cheap shot at someone else. Just guessing.

I WILL come back. I WILL defeat you. The championship belt WILL be mine.

So seriously, do you have any cute tricks? I figured out that I could make a box in the corner, and then if you put a narrow, one-block alley right up against the edge, the balls will roll into the box and get (kind of) trapped. That's my key trick. What's yours?

I do the same thing, but I have seen those little balls just pop out by themselves after you have trapped them. I guess it's a game glitch or something. I know that you get more points for having more lives left at the end and for getting over a certain percentage complete. Back when I used to have an inside "techie" job, I used to play that game when I was bored and wasn't posting on the planet.

I'm a little surprised at the hurt butts, but then again I didn't personally take any abuse from them. So I agree with this. No big loss. I guess the solution is if you have something to say, sack up and make the post.

The only thing I'll miss about them, is the anonymous part of the humor. It was fun trying to think of who would've put what where.

I knew the completion thing affected your score, but I didn't know the lives left affected it.

I hate it when the balls jump out of the fence, but I guess it's only fair since they'll jump in, too.

After talking it over with morphius for a while, we decided to kill them. We'd gotten complaints from various posters about them in the past few days.

I actually liked them and thought they were pretty funny at first, but they quickly deteriorated into the kind of thing you'd find written in a high school bathroom stall. I'm all for poop threads and general dumbassery, but do we really want things like "goatse eats menstruation" being the first things that people see when they visit the Planet?

The other issue was that they are completely untraceable. For example, if it ever got to the point that we had someone going around and making threats in tags (a bannable offense), we wouldn't be able to identify the source at all.

I guess, it comes down to this:
-Serving a useful purpose? No
-Humorous? Somewhat
-Annoying people? Somewhat
-Possibility of being a long-term problem? Definitely

Anyway, sorry for those of you who got a kick out of them. Feel free to leave the same types of comments as a normal post with your name attached to it if you feel the need.

Well at least it's being up front with people better they find out sooner rather than later right? Afterall normally it would take people weeks to figure out that "goatse eats menstruation", now they know right away and can't claim bait and switch....the...."hey when I joined you all seemed nice, but then I found out you were all just a bunch of assholes!".:D

Yeah, you'd think. The issue is just that this isn't even close to how they're supposed to be used. The idea is that you can "tag" threads with key topics so that you can search for them easier in the future. It's also a self-promoting thing because it generates a "tag cloud" that tries to get the page to rate higher in web searches. In other words, tagging a thread as being about "Jared Allen" would help that thread to rank higher in a Google search.

I'd guess that most boards don't allow regular users to add new tags - only use a bunch of presets.

For the record, the only major changes I've made around here are:

2. Removing rep=casino cash, but replacing with the reset button.
3. Removing tags.
