Survivor fans? Season 17

Is anyone else excited about Season 17 of Survivor?

I'm a fan of the show, but I think this season will be great for a few reasons:

1. 17 is my favorite number.
2. The location is Gabon, Africa. I've always been fascinated with Africa. Survivor: Gabon - Earth's Last Eden will feature a total of 18 contestants living amongst wildlife.
3. It will be the first season shot in HD!!!

There's quite a difference between Survivor and, say, The Apprentice, The Bachelor, The Amazing Race, Beauty and the Geek and all that other crap. Those shows are more like The Real World and its staged "reality", which predates Survivor in the U.S. by nearly a decade.

I can't stand Survivor.

I can't stand the talk about "alliances" and how they "play" the game. From what I've seen, to win you have to be average and a back stabber. If you're too athletic, you're a threat to others and get voted off. If you're too weak, you're useless to everyone else and get voted off. The whole point seems to be making friends with everyone, but you double cross them the first chance you get.

Just my uninformed opinion though. My wife loves the show. :shrug:

This new season should have the contestants watch the first sixteen seasons in order, back to back. Last one sane wins.

Yes, its the show that started the reality Boom 7 or 8 years ago. But its still one of the best reality shows, if not the best.

Honestly, Cops and Real World came years before Survivor.

Survivor used to be ok, 17 seasons of the exact same thing seems excessive to me....

Survivor is exactly the reason why we have American Idol, Big Brother, Rock of Love, and why that annoying bitch off of the Flavor Flav show got her own show.

Sure, there were some reality shows prior to it. But it's the reason we are going to end up with shows like "My dog poops - 24 hours of nothing but dogs taking a dump". It's gotten completely out of hand - the sooner it dies, the better.

Yeah, I watched Real World my first 2 years in college, but that's it. Both Real World & Road Rules = orchestrated/nearly scripted TV drama.
