Okay - just bought a new house and got my first partial water/sewer bill from the KCMO Water Services Dept. It is $49 for 25 days of service! That seems very high considering that I'm the only person living in the house, didn't water the lawn and didn't have my washing hooked up yet. I talked to a few people at work and most of theirs run $40-60 for two months.

So input from others in the KCMO area - specifically those near Waldo or Brookside - how much do your water/sewer bills run?

Possible water leak? That's something to watch for if your bill suddenly gets high.

Yep. Call the water co. and have them check for a leak.

Sometimes a sewer tap fee is included into the bill..But that should have been included in the paperwork that you signed at closing, and would only apply if they had recently tapped into the sewer. ($6,000 tap fee here where i live and they adjust your payments for like 4 years to recover that amount) You can ask for an "average" monthly costs from your utility company for the past year and see what the previous owners were paying on the average per month..Other than that I agree that there could be a leak in the system. Good luck,

I bet you're accidentally getting Perrier. Call the water company and ask them to switch you to tap water.

Read the meter yourself to verify they are reading the correct meter.

check your bill...I moved to KCMO and the first bill had a $25 deposit.

My bill is generally ~$60-70 every two months. Family of 4 w/ landscape watering.

Maybe your taking too many dumps. Every time you flush its like 3 gallons.

That explains it . I would call them up and tell them to remove the sewer charge off your bill . What are they gonna do , tell you you can't take a dump anymore. And the stormwater fee is BS. Send them the $25.22 and tell them to shove it.

look at your bill to see amount of gallons used. much more than 3000 gallon in your scenario could mean a leak. even if new check your toilets for water going from the tank to the bowl in between flushes. usually you can see a liitle movement in the bowl if this is happening. also if you can pop your meter lid check your meter. the meter should have a little dial or some type of indicator to let you know if water is moving through it.

Most water meters measure cubic feet not gallons. The only time I've seen it in gallons was on a rural water district.

Check for leaks. Check to see if your faucet isn't dripping. Check to see if your toilet isn't "running" while not in use. And do check the meter as well.

Thats nothing. Ours is nearly $60 every single month. But Topeka overcharges for water too.

Check that your toilet seals are still good. A leaky toilet constantly having to refill itself can cost quite a bit if you let it.

the bill will show gallons. just check the meter for movement. if the dials moving and nothing is on, you got a problem.

It's government approved. Good luck getting that one overturned by the H20 Dept.
