Springfield police are investigating the death of an elderly couple who both died of gunshot wounds this morning.

According to Lt. Scott Leven, an 84-year-old man who lives at 2430 S. Kickapoo Ave. called 911 at 7:45 a.m. saying that his wife had killed herself and that he would be dead before police arrived.

Officers secured the location and entered the house about two hours later and found the man and his wife, who was 76, dead of gunshot wounds.

At this point, Leven said the woman’s death is being investigated as a homicide.

“We’ll approach it as a homicide until they prove otherwise,” Leven said.

The names of the deceased are being withheld until next of kin can be notified.

The woman was suffering from a terminal illness, Leven said.

you can't expect cops to go running headlong into a house where there's an armed suicidal maniac

In fairness to them there aren't many springfield cops and they had speed traps up all over the place. You can't expect them to be in two places at once

Probably not. S. Kickapoo Ave. is on the south side of town. Welfare isnt enough to pay for mortgage/rent on that side of town. :p

What did you expect them to do? The donuts would have gotten stale if they had left them out

Isn't Springfield supposedly, one of the worst places to raise a family in America?

Police are now looking for this suspect. She should be considered armed and dangerous.

Yeah there was a thread about it awhile ago because the crime is high and there are towns half the size with more to do.

I heard the SPD is going on strike next week. One of the main gripes they have is that their holsters will only hold 3 donuts.

Nobody will probably notice. SPD = no PD

lol all police departments in this area are a joke. I got pulled over in Willard and got a warning for going 25 in a 20. They have nothing to do.

BUSTED!!!

I'm going to have to talk to your mom about this tomorrow. This type of behaviour is unacceptable. As much time as I've spent teaching you safe driving habits and you go and pull a stunt like this. If I were you I'd be trying to find some kind of alternative transportation starting tomorrow. I'm pretty sure you're going to loose your keys after I talk to your mother.

Was the 20 in a school zone? I could understand that but if a cop pulled me over for doing 5 miles over the limit I would laugh in his face. If he gave me a ticket it would get thrown out in court. 5 miles over is a waste of tax payers money and the judicial system's time. That kind of shit pisses judges off.

A buddy of mine was driving back from Clovis New Mexico and was going 72 mph theTexas Highway Patrol pulled him over. He was driving a brand new (at the time) 2005 company truck, logo DOT numbers. This jackoff asks him how fast he was going, my buddy says around 70 I had my cruise set. The cop says "I don't know what the speed limit where you are from but in Texas it is 70 mph you were going 72  He made him open up all of his tool boxes went through his cab and then wrote him a ticket. I guess if I lived in west Texas I would be bitter also. You know the old saying its so flat if your old lady leaves you , you can watch the bitch drive off for two weeks.
