The company I work for in firework sales tells me the economy has never hurt firework sales and to be honest I'm more than a bit skeptical so I was hoping to get some feedback from all of you on what your plans for fireworks and the 4th of July would be like this Summer.

I don't typically spend money on fireworks in the first place, so it won't really change anything.

It's a lot cheaper and easier to watch someone else's fireworks.

Oh it will hurt it, I can almost gurantee that.

Ditto that.

Can't remember the last time I spent money on fireworks. Was probably in my teens.

I plan on buying less this year. I put that but I should be completely honest. It has more to do with me buying an 06 Silverado than the economy. Will have a truck payment for the first time in 4 years on July 2nd and updating my tags puts me a bit low this month. Fortunately I live just off Lake Shawnee in Topeka where they have a big Fireworks display every year. Looks like a cookout and walk to the lake for me.

I'll spend my typical $20 on them. Just enough to keep the kids from picking up all the duds in the neighborhood and blowing off a thumb - like a neighbor kid I knew did while growing up.

I live in the People's Republic of Illinois, where fireworks are illegal. Of course, that doesn't stop people from getting them from Wisconsin or Indiana.

That said, I outgrew the desire to set off my own fireworks years ago. If my wife didn't insist on watching the city's display, I wouldn't even bother doing that.

There it is...
$20 for an assorted fireworks package.
That's my annual ritual. I don't like my kid getting too worked up about popping too many of his own fireworks anyway.

I don't usually buy any so the price of gas doesn't change anything.

I love fireworks and enjoy doing my own, however we normally go to the city display and then later we pop a few of our own if I bought any. The economy wont change that for me.

You planning to blow up anyone else's?

Fireworks are minor league. The real fun is setting fire to large drums of gasoline. Alas, with the price of gas I won't be doing that this year.

Living in California, I haven't bought fireworks in years and it SUCKS! I used to spend lots of money on fireworks and we would party at the creek for hours. We would have bottle rocket fights and have a great time.

Yea, I can sympathize with that....last couple years we doused the neighbor kids with gasoline and set them on fire, but this year, it's just too expensive. We thought about going electric, but it's just not the same.

Well, I did blow up Topeka's for around 7 years.

I wouldn't say that, necessarily. I just prefer these:

I do know that with the price of gas, I won't be pouring petro out on the ground, into holes, etc and then shooting bottle rockets at the puddle of unleaded.

I'll still spend the same amount on fireworks. Also, this year we're going to WoF and OoF on the 4th. We'll blow the fireworks up on the 5th.

It's illegal to buy or set them off in North Carolina. I live 8 miles from the border of South Carolina where they are legal so I might buy some, maybe $50 worth. Just enough to keep the kids entertained and scare the neighbors dogs.

Mee too. Wife usually makes me buy/set off a couple, but I'm po (can't afford the "or"), so it is minimal.

Rain Man, you need to blowup drums of gas WITH fireworks. That would make it better.

Huh, I'm surprised they allow them at all up there. We were supposed to come out there in '02 but pretty much half the state was on fire that summer, we finally made it out in '05 and everything was a tinder box then, just very very dry. Great place to be in the summertime though.

And now the beetles have destroyed almost all the pines. They're standing dead in the areas that they haven't been clean cut. It's still a tinderbox.

I will save the money from fireworks and buy something that lasts longer than 1 minute when I burn it. This flammable object will also severely enhance my viewing pleasure while I watch from my back deck and laugh at my neighbors who burn through $2,000 just for my enjoyment.

In comparison to our first 3 years on this day(6 full days from the 4th) we just had our best day ever by far and people were buying on average around $150 per.

I've been surveying our customers and alot of them are telling me they're staying closer to home this year and spending their money on fireworks instead of gas,if this keeps up it's going to be a good season.
