I'm of the opinion that the Celtics are 99% built to make a run next year as well.

As far as I know, there are only two players the Celtics will not resign, and that's PJ Brown (38 years old) and Sam Cassell (38 years old). The Celtics should easily replace both teams.

But with as tall as the Lakers front court is going to be next year, the Celtics don't have a true center coming off the bench when Perkins sits down. Powe and Davis are both power forwards. So I believe the Celtics need a true center to backup Perkins to compete with the Lakers.

On the other end, the Celtics do have Scott Pollard, who's been injured all year. Pollard's a 7-footer, 270. He's got the body they'll need.

Is he any good, though? What's his play like?

Thanks in advance.

Well the guy hasn't played a full season in a long time. He can get rebounds and play a little defense and that's about it. He brings some energy to the game, but poses no threat offensively. If I was a GM, I would not want Pollard to be my immediate backup to my starting big man. I'd rather have him further down the bench.

Thats a tall order. :p

I think they need to get another B/U center.

I don't see the Celtics repeating easily. You're probably dead on with the need at center. LA is going to have Andrew Bynum back to wreak havoc, which should help free up Gasol and Odom.

Hell, in the East... if LeBron gets anyone at all to play with, the Cavs could get back into the finals. He nearly single-handedly beat Boston this year.

Yeah, Id put my money on the Lakers next year. Bynum coming back is huge.

Kobe vs LeBron Finals is what the NBA really needs. Or a Kobe vs Wade final. Miami should improve greatly with Wade coming back and adding Beasley.

Yeah the league really suffered with its doubled Finals ratings and everything this year.

Beasley is NOT going to go to the Heat. Beasley is going to go to the Chicago Bulls. I will bet every one last cent of my casino cash on it.

Either way, Heat aren't going to become contenders overnight like Boston did. Shawn Marion is not a superstar no matter how much people want him to be. Reminds me of Lamar Odom in the fact he's more suited as a second or better yet third option.

Don't sleep on some of the other teams from the West. I think the general public and the media are going to love the Trailblazers and the Hornets. Chris Paul is one of the most exciting players I've ever seen. The dude is 6'0'' tall and can score from anywhere. Craig Oden next year will be interesting.

Can't wait.

Yup. Sasha Kaun is your classic NBA backup center who'll have a 10 year career.

I would take that bet. GREG Oden should be a very good player but he will still basically be a rookie with alot to learn.

Which are absolutely the 2 key ingredients to becoming a successful backup NBA center in the NBA

Pollard is not your man. He belongs on a team, but shouldn't carry a big load.

It's an odd year next year (2009), so the Spurs will win it all. They're dumping some of the old guys and bringing in youth. I think that revitalizes them.

As for the Celtics, it will be interesting to watch. I think Ray Allen declined precipitously this year, Finals notwithstanding, and Garnett and Pierce may be fat and happy. Rondo needs to shoot 1,000 jumpers a day, because he could be a force if he were a threat from outside of 10 feet.

I only accept bets with as much casino cash as I do. Your 400 dollars is not a large risk. People with 80% as much as casino cash as me actually, I will accept the bet.
