...napalm in the morning....

I've taken up cycling again and this morning when I suited up and (you're gonna think this is gross) the smell of the cycling gloves made me feel like a 20 year-old cycling champ again.

"That smell, that salty, sweaty terrycloth smell. It smells like....like....victory."

Studies show scents can trigger memories more than any other sense.

Cut grass.
A new baseball glove
Arrowhead Parking lot.
Our old camping tent (canvas + sweat + Coppertone)

Are you smellin' what I'm laying down?

What's your trigger?

LOL
So you have sex with bagels?
Never had lox or an egg bagel. (except the ones that have real egg placed in between the two parts of a regular bagel. You californians are weird. And the ones here at Ft. Leggitt are just plain rude!

besides, maybe I was just calling you a pussy.....

Bacon frying, coffee, women wearing opium perfume, green hay, a clean baby (esp. their head - and I don't have any idea why a tiny baby's head smells good to me, but it does). Hoppe's No. 9 gun cleaner, frying onions, red wine, hoppy beer, chili and pizza.

Good call previously with the baot motor combustion... great sound and smell.
Also, the tire section at a store (or a tire store).
Finally, the smell of a locker room.
It's nasty, but it smells like the best days of growing up.

I know...right?
I remember when I first started coaching, my first time in the school that I work at's locker room, how horrible that smell was, and this is a locker room built in the 20s, with the big boiler in the middle... it was bad. It was nasty to bionic levels. I'm sure there are many on this board who have been in that locker room and could attest. Once that initial wave of nasty wore off, though, those memories of being in a stinky locker room, suiting up for practice with my team all came back, and it was great.
Now we are getting whole new locker rooms and new offices, so it's a good new/bad news thing.

The smell of the top of my daughters head, takes me back to when she was a baby. The smell of freshly mowed grass, takes me back to when my Dad made me mow the lawn. In the spring, when we fertilize our yards with manure, it takes me back to the smell of our barn when I was a kid.

Older home basements. Remind me of my grandparents house.

The ocean.

Hickory smoke.

Gotta repeat the new baseball glove.

Chopped basil, garlic and ginger.

Babies - not the poopy ones.

The bubble gum smell inside a pack of just opened baseball cards.

Old school Vegas Casino: Smoke + beer + slot grease + bad cologne.

Old car interior smell. Both ,my parents had Air-cooled VWs. I have the same year, same color camper van as my dad has growing up. every time I get in it: gasoline+oil+VW upholstery stuffing....aaaah.

POLO by Ralph Lauren. I kept one of those green bottles in my jacket in 10th grade. Someone had some on the other day. Took me back to listening to Flock of Seagulls and getting busy with 16 year-old girls. PBJ

The ocean is he only thing I can think of off the top of my head.

When I was in Alaska the smell of the ocean and the air smelled so pure it was amazing. I think it's one of the last places on earth you can go to in order to get a feeling of what it was like for Native Americans before industrialization took over most of the land.

Alaska gives me a woody.

halloween candy.

When my kids get home from trick-or-treating and dump the pile out on the rug I take a big whiff. The combination of all the candies together and instantly I'm in my head wearing that sweaty Ben Cooper costume with the vinyl jumpsuit and vision-impairing mask.

Hey, look here baby, what's going on ?
Step over in the light
Oh, no! Look here.

Your hair is all wrecked, you're full of sweat
Your underskirt is wringing wet
You come in here walking just like a goose
It looks like somebody just tranked you to loose
You've been doing something
You've been doing something wrong
You've been doing something
You've been doing something wrong
I can tell by the way you smell

And there's grandma and grandpa out on the porches
Must be kidding 'bout her ninety years
Ain't too old, God almighty, just keep shifting them gears
Well, you ain't too old, said you ain't too old
Ain't too old, doing the boogie, you ain't too old
I can tell by the way they smell

Well, it's a-run here mama! Just look at little sis'
Got her hand in her toodle, way up to her wrist
She's doing something wrong, she's doing something wrong
She's doing something wrong, God knows she's doing it
I can tell by the way she smell

Go on and change your clothes!

Clean Towels - My 13 year old son always smells the towel when he gets a new one from the closet.

I'd have a talk with him. There is no reason for a 13 year old boy to have access to clean towels.
