for a new vehicle purchase? I hate the 20mpg my 06 Frontier gets, but I'm not ready to make a switch yet. Full-on hybrid production is probably two years off, and even then will be pricey at first, so I'm sayin 4/5 years before I get serious. By that time we should really see some valid offerings. just an estimate tho---thoughts?

Depends on your commute. 4-5 yrs for me would be 125K miles. That would be way too long in my book. I bought a 2 yr old Cavalier that gets 30+ 3 yrs ago and fuel savings just about made the payment for me.

I have a '98 Accord with just over 100k miles. It's in near-perfect condition and I still love the ride. I also love not having a car payment and would like to keep it at least 5-7 more years.

I have a 2003 honda crv 22 city 30 hwy 60k, a 2008 honda civic 30 city 39 hwy 8k and a 2007 stella scooter 80 city.

I plan to buy my wife a car when she turns 45

She gets to choose any car under 65k

other than that I am set for the next ten years.

Don't sell an SUV for a fuel efficent car right now... you are going to lose so much in the value of the SUV, that it will take literally years for you to make that up in fuel savings.

FYI... The Chevy Volt will begin production in a little over one year... sticker is 40,000... but the Govt is going to give upwards of 8-10,000 in rebates.

Wow. I had 3 different friend that had CRV's and they were all unhappy with the gas mileage...best they got was 24-25 mpg highway. I'm not saying your lying, Im just saying thats good that your crv does that well.

I pay cash for older vehicles and then run them into the ground. I haven't had a car payment for almost 10 years.

i have a 2000 Accord and pretty much feel the same way. Its got 88,000 on it. Ill probably keep that car damn near forever. No car payment is the best kind of payment there is.

Ive pretty much decided im never buying new again. I always look for solid used cars (Hondas, Toyotas, Nissans) that are 2-3 years old.

I took it on a trip from Kc to Galveston over to New Orleans up to St. Louis and back to Kc. The whole trip we average 28-30 hwy ours is a 5-speed though
had to custom order it.

Exactly... I'm going to get a Honda Civic probably sometime during the middle of this week.

Can't continue to enjoy the 13.5 mpg I'm, getting out of my Yukon XL Denali.

After years of playing Grand Theft Auto, I've decided to not ever buy a car again, but yet steal one with a VERY HIGH Gas Efficiency. Gotta love not having car payments.

Next year. The kids can no longer fit comfortably into our little Kia (although the gas mileage ain't bad), and it just rolled over 100K. Time for a new, bigger vehicle.

Why not steal the gas too?

Looking for an accord as we speak. I hate my truck, but I'm never going to sell it.

210,000 mi. and the engine feels like it's brand new. I havn't had a car payment in 4 yrs. No Major repairs, and have done all the mecahanical work myself. 95 Chevy Z71.

You don't like the 20 your Frontier gets, you'd hate the Titan.

FWIW, even now I think the average person can buy a lot of gas for what a new car would cost and what they also will lose on trading a truck/SUV. If I were already looking, I'd consider more economical but unless I were commuting 100 miles a day, I'd just keep filling up what I have.

For me the comfort level is important too. We have a Camry that pulls 32-34 on the hwy while my Titan pulls 17. On drives of under 2 hrs the Camry is fine. On long drives though, it gets so uncomfortable that I'd rather pay the extra for gas and drive the Titan. 'Course, at 39 it takes a bit more room to be comfortable than it did when I was in my 20s.

Here's a question for the economy-conscious car guys...

Back in 1980 volkswagon offered deisel motors in the Rabbit and a small (SMALL-REALLY SMALL) truck that got 60 MPG. Why aren't any of these being made now?

The oil companies bought it up and quashed it like they did the 300 mpg carburetor?

I just purchased my wife a nex Mazda CX9 about 4 months ago. This was after not having a car payment for nearly 10 years. Its not the most fuel efficient vehicle, but has a ton of features that make up for it.

That's what I just did. I just bought a 2000 Intrigue last week with just over 120k loaded and I'm gonna drive the hell out of it.

Hell - I would be happy with 20. I am getting 15-16 - not looking at a vehicle, but am currently shopping for a motorcycle as my daily driver.

It would help if we actually had any viable alternatives.

It would help if we actually had any viable alternatives.

There is currently a lot of waste in producing farm products like wheat chaff and corn stalks. Those are currently being plowed under to add nutrients to the soil but could possibly be used to create energy in the future.

I purchased my latest vehicle, a 2004 Tacoma TRD off road package in 2004 with cash. I don't like payments either.

I think the next time I look for a car I might just lease one instead.

I'm not making car payments, so I'm not looking to spend a bunch of cash up front to save some fraction of it over the next few years. I'll just pay for the gas and bitch a lot.
