DeezNutz
06-23-2008, 06:30 PM
Teahen is frustrating. He shows great power to the opposite field, but he's inconsistent as can be. Though I've stated before that I don't think he's an everyday type guy, it wouldn't be unrealistic for him to have an isolated 30-35 HR season.

You don't like the German, Gload, Pena lineup? A team has to make 27 outs somewhere. If not them, where are they going to come from?

I like Bannister's poise, that is one of his strong suits. If he could just not let the game get ahead of him, i.e. afraid to pitch to contact with a 4 run lead, he can be a dominant pitcher for a long time.

Guillen has been great... and everybody's gonna talk about his chances of being our first 25/100 or 30/100 guy in forever, which is important, for sure.

But something that is getting overlooked is he's also on pace to set the Royals all-time record in doubles (Hal McRae, 54). The way the K is set up, it's probably a better doubles/triples park than HR ballpark. Guillen is on pace for 59 doubles. Nobody has had 60 doubles in a season in over 70 years, and that's only been done 6 times.

Not really. Guillen's rant came after blowing a four-run lead in the 9th. He called his teammates a bunch of ****ing babies who didn't know how to win and that he understood why the organization had lost so much in the past several years. There wasn't much positive to it, but it was 100 percent accurate (and needed).

id agree with you on the the pena part, but gaithright i dont. Gaithright constantly causes pitchers and defenses to change what they are doing because of his tremendous speed. When stuff like that comes up, it kinda throws a wrench into what they are doing if they are on a good run or something.

Personally i think he's being used exactly how he should be, definitely not as a leadoff hitter like they were trying earlier, but as low to the bottom as possible.

I think Gload is definetly a popular player (with the fake silent treatment joke) and the clubhouse seems to stick together for the most part. The team can play better, but atleast they are winning and learning ways to win right now...

I continue to be amazed by the number of people who think that Gathright is an everyday ML player. He's fast, yes, but he cannot hit. At all. Not one bit. And I think his approach is actually worse than Pena's, though they are both varying degree of stink. Beyond this, like Pena, Gathright plays only a slightly above average CF. He gets to some balls that others wouldn't but still goofs the routine play from time to time. Not ok when you can't hit.

Thank you. It's painful to watch him at the plate. If he had tremendous bat control that would be one thing, but he doesn't and his approach is awful. All arms and no balance.

For the record, I like Gload because of his ability to make a pick at first. I'd hate to know how many throwing errors Gordon would have without Ichi-Gload. But the dude can't hit, unfortunately.

True. I'm surprised that a team doesn't play the outfield 20 feet off the grass for him, and I'm halfway serious. How many of his hits have been in-field singles and/or bunts?

I cringed sunday when he was up with the bases loaded, i believe twice or something, one he struck out after a 3-2 count and then walked another appearance.

His approach does suck, a guy like that needs to work the count all the time, that is his usefulness is to get on base. I don't think he'll hit much above .260 honestly

Completely agree. What bothers me the most is that he rarely ever hits the ball hard. If he could consistently hit hard ground balls, he'd be a very promising talent, but I don't think he's capable of doing this at this point.

Completely agree. What bothers me the most is that he rarely ever hits the ball hard. If he could consistently hit hard ground balls, he'd be a very promising talent, but I don't think he's capable of doing this at this point.

Yeah, i don't like him starting at all...we have too many guys like this on the roster though. Hopefully they'll be weeded out by spring training next year.

Pena's glove is insane ill admit, and he batted a respectable .260 last year, if he could do that, it would be a miracle and id take it. Gload, solid backup INF/OF, his glove has saved our ass alot...

Gath is just a pinch runner, no need

Heh.. I think we're talking about different rants. He had some more to say after a win this weekend. Saturday's game, I think.

That was part of the point... "Yeah, we won... but we're still making stupid mistakes." He went on about how we had some very good players... and everything was "we".

I'm completely alright with it.

The best Guillen story was last week when he erased Aviles' name on the lineup and wrote in TPJ, then went around complaining that TPJ was in the game over Aviles. Which is basically just Guillen making fun of TPJ for no reason.

I cringed sunday when he was up with the bases loaded

me too. man, i used to love gathright, but he has looked really really awful recently. he looks scared at the plate. every swing is a defensive swing, even when there are no strikes.

It was in a Dick Kaegel story on the Royals' site.

So I was reading the box score and it says Bannister went 7 IP with 0 ER and had a home run. How the hell does a guy give up a home run and not have an earned run?

Royals have a NL team like we have for most of our history - Gathright, Pena, and Gload are guys you want to have come off the bench in the NL. Gathright to run, Pena and Gload to field.

It amazes me that last year Gathright had a .307 AVG and an .371 OBP. The rest of his career mirrors this year.

Aviles and Olivo need to be everyday starters.

TPJ and Buck can't hit for shit. I hope Billy Butler can get his shit together and make it back up to the majors.

alanm is the expert, but it has to do with when the runs were scored. Since the inning should have been logically over had German made the play, everything after is unearned. Weird, but true.

Cause German made an error which had he not the guy who hit the jack never would of made it to the plate.

Now that is not funny. All it does is make Guillen look like an ass.

Yeah. Horrible. Here was Hillman's take on the situation:

"At least they're having some fun with it," Hillman said. "That's good. You need to have some fun."

If it keeps the mood light in the club house to do this once in a while and they keep winning or playing well, what difference does it truly make?

There have been practical jokers on many in locker rooms..... This isn't really any different.

I bet Hillman might protect the lineup card a little better next time.
