Watched this movie over the weekend. Very bad and very predictable.

What do you mean by predictable? It's based on a play.

Ditto everyone. There's a quite popular DVD of the Broadway version with Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovett. The singing is much better and its less "in your face." Plus they include more jokes.

The purpose of the musical was to be extremely light-hearted with a dramatic tragedy at the end. Burton didn't include any of that at all. All he did was add blood and took out quite a few of the funny parts.

what? The on stage version I saw was not light hearted in the slightest and I'm not sure that's the purpose of the musical...at all. Unless you're being sarcastic here and in that case....carry on.

What do you mean by predictable? It's based on a play.It was very obvious when the homeless beggar woman made here appearance that it was his wife and he would kill her at some point.

Ya forgot to mention the bit about the pie lady knowing that the wife was still alive but didn't tell it to the husband since the pie lady was in love with him and was hoping he'd marry her.

Duh. That's how plays, especially musicals are.
