View Full Version : Football Another Favre comeback thread.......

SI's Peter King writes that Brett Favre "wants to play football again" and his agent could ask the Packers to be taken off the league's reserve/retired list in the next ten 10 days.

It's the logical next step. King writes the Packers clearly don't want him back, so this would force the issue. They'd have to let Favre play or get rid of him, both of which sound frightening. They could also try one last time to convince him not to play. King believes that ultimately the Packers would take him back, risking the chance they alienate Aaron Rodgers. Another option would be if Favre agrees not to join one of their NFC North rivals. Jul. 7 - 9:55 am et

If this happens and I'm Aaron Rodgers I ask for a trade.

somebody needs to remove his right hand until he agrees to stay retired...
and then they could sew it back on

And I thought less of him because of it as well. However, I cared far less (I'm not much of a basketball fan).

Why would you think less of him though?

Because I think he's holding his team back, personally. I never had an issue with him taking a while to decide each offseason, but his team has already made preparations for the season without him. The team has been preparing to go into a season with a new QB and, potentially, adjustments in the way the team will play. To me, it's unfair to his team to try and come back at this point.

Admittedly, I don't know that much about basketball, but my guess is that it's far easier to "plug a player in" to a system in basketball than in football.

In his case, I honestly believe it's simply love of the game.

I think if Brett can still play, he should.

Once it's truly over, it's over, and there is no coming back.

I know if I thought I could still play it would drive me crazy to watch a season go by that I was still physically capable of participating in.

As a matter of fact it does drive me insane to know that I'm young enough, and in good enough shape to play, but will never get the chance to play organized football again.
especially after what happened in my HS career.

I'm almost always in favor of old players continuing to play........ as long as they are still good enough to do so. Brett Favre can still play. He's a top 10 QB in the '08 NFL.

I was really surprised he retired in the first place. Coming up short of the superbowl, I thought, would pretty much solidify his not retiring. As close as they got.

I have always liked the guy, heck as much as I can like a player from another team. This act is getting old, and I think it is unfair to the team. If I was Rodgers I would say enough is enough trade me.

Maybe he wants to extend his interception record. Or just doesn't want his last NFL pass to be a game losing interception.

My money is on the Vikes. They have a very good team with no QB. Plus it's a FU to a division rival.

I thought that but then I thought that maybe the Packers will make a deal with Favre that they'll release him if he agrees not to sign with a team in the NFC North. They have about as much cap room as us....so they could just say screw it and hold onto him.

I'm kind of curious, I'm not saying I want Favre or anything... but why does it make so much since to go to a bad team like the Dolphins or Falcons but not a bad team like the Chiefs? I don't think it makes sence to go to any of them, or if any of them I think the Chiefs would make the most since since we have(or should have) a good defense, we have targets in Gonzo and Bowe, and a great RB in LJ.

Because he loves the game of football. Probably the same reason why you watch the Chiefs games every weekend. The love of the game. Anyone ever watch Favre play? He plays the game as if he was a kid. I know it gets said a bit, but ****, its true.

play for chance to win another SB. Needs a team close to the level..
Vikes (even though NFC N team)
Buccs (NFC S winner 2007) they trade Garcia seems logical.

I was just listening to Fox radio and Jay Glazer reported that Favre approached the Packers about this in March. At that time the Packers were all for having him back, then after a weekend, he called back and changed his mind. Said he wanted to stay retired.

If I were the Packers I wouldn't release him, I'd keep him and let him back up Aaron Rodgers. I realize this won't be popular with many, but the team needs to move forward.

I've heard reports that he's asked for his outright release. The team I could see taking a shot at him is Buffalo. They have two mediocre QB's at best, they're a middle of the pack team, they have a good running back, and they could use a guy like Favre to boost attendance. It's out of the NFC, there's no rivalry between the teams or cities. I'm guessing he wants to play in a warm weather city maybe, but I think the Bills would be the perfect fit for him.

Favre asks Packers for release
Brett Favre may be determined to play football in 2008, but it now seems unlikely he will do so in Green Bay.
The legendary quarterback has officially asked the Packers to release him, FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer reports. The request was first reported by ESPN.com.

I can tell you from living here, this statement you make is very, very true. Brett Favre could run for governor in Wisconsin on an "I eat babies" platform and he would win in a landslide. If he went to the Vikes I don't think Green Bay fans will ever be able to love again.

On the other hand, the meltdown would be absolutely enthralling to watch.

Packers release statement:

Packers | Statement on Favre
Fri, 11 Jul 2008 14:07:58 -0700 The Green Bay Packers (http://www.kffl.com/team/17/nfl) made a statement Friday, July 11, regarding retired NFL (http://www.kffl.com/team/77/nfl) QB Brett Favre (http://www.kffl.com/player/764/nfl). "Brett earned and exercised the right to retire on his terms. We wanted him to return and welcomed him back on more than one occasion. Brett's press conference and subsequent conversations in the following weeks illustrated his commitment to retirement. The finality of his decision to retire was accepted by the organization. At that point, the Green Bay Packers (http://www.kffl.com/team/17/nfl) made the commitment to move forward with our football team. As a retired player, Brett has the option to apply for reinstatement with Commissioner Goodell. If that were to occur, he would become an active member of the Green Bay Packers (http://www.kffl.com/team/17/nfl). As always, the Packers (http://www.kffl.com/team/17/nfl) will do what's right and in the best interest of the team. As with all Packers (http://www.kffl.com/team/17/nfl) greats, Brett's legacy will always be celebrated by our fans and the organization, regardless of any change in his personal intentions. Brett and Deanna will always be a part of the Packers (http://www.kffl.com/team/17/nfl) family."
