I will be in KC. I have a friend whose apartment will be empty near downtown KC. I will be staying there instead of having to pay for a hotel. I'm driving up that Friday, 8/15. I will be going to the Chiefs/Cardinals preseason game that Saturday, so let me know if any of you are going. If anyone would like to get together for dinner, drinks, hang out, etc while I'm there, that would be awesome.

You've learned nothing.

Pick a venue. Tell people where it is and what time it is. Then they show or they don't. If you leave it open ended nothing ever gets done.

ANYWAY....

I would like to meet up with people Friday night, since I'll be going to the game on Saturday. As soon as you guys tell me where the hot spots are close to downtown, then I'll decide, set the place and time. How's that?

Yeah, need a few more specifics...

If it's St. Lukes, you'd be close to the Plaza/Westport. If it's Children's Mercy, you're right between Westport and P&L. If it's Trinity, you should not leave the house.

It's just a short drive to either Westport/Plaza, or the Power and Light district. I know there are a few bars scattered along the way both ways, but don't know much about them.

Great food, great place for drinks, not sure on karaoke, but the one up north pretty much turns into a dance bar after 9 or so on Saturdays. That's all the info I have.

Oh, and they have an excellent selection of beers on tap, as well.

I'd recommend Grinders on 18th just off McGee. Great tator tot pizza, NY style pizza, grinders, definitely white trash sheik. Its Stretch's place, he does some of the large metal sculpture on Exteme Home Makeover. They got an outdoor patio and a stage, I believe Split Lip Rayfield and Murder By Death will be playing there Aug 15th.

During the summer, Crown Center has free Friday night concerts and free movies that are shown outside on a big screen. I used to watch them from my cube at Hallmark whenever I had to work nights. http://www.crowncenter.com

I'd go to the P&L District, but drinks are on the expensive side. I'll be in KC the weekend before, or else I'd show up for a drink or two. The College Basketball Experience next to the Sprint Center is pretty cool. At the P&L there's a place outside where you can sit and enjoy your drinks, and you could always reserve a lane at Lucky Strike, too.

Alright....

Here is the type of setting I would prefer, and I don't care if I have to drive, as long as it isn't tremendously out of the way...

1. Good drink/beer specials.
2. TV's to watch whatever baseball game might be on.
3. Possibly a pool table.
4. Decent bar food (although unnecessary, since I could eat elsewhere before going).

I don't mind live music, but if I'm going to meet and talk with people, then I prefer not to have to yell.

Two places I've been to that I know I like.

810 Zone on the Plaza
Old Chicago in OP (out of the way, but they have good food and a great beer selection)

I've only driven by it several times, but Willie's is across the street from the Sprint Center. It looks like a decent place, even for being a Mizzou bar. ;)

The P&L District has a big screen outside, but all I've ever seen on it is college basketball and P&L ads, so I don't know if it's something that's normally on for baseball.

For a good sports bar atmosphere, I'd stick with the 810 Zone. For something new, P&L.

It's technically not part of the P&L District, but it's a block away. It opened a month or two before the Sprint Center opened, iirc. I'm not a P&L District expert, but it's probably one of the best options downtown based on your criteria.

It's on the southeast corner of Truman Road (15th) and Grand. The Sprint Center is across Truman Road on the northeast corner, and the P&L District is across Grand from the Sprint Center.
