It was for some defensive lineman Vermeil wanted to keep, who I don't think even made the team.

no, the willie Roaf retirement was a surprise, because earlier that off-season Roaf talked Will Shields out of retirement. The right before training camp started Roaf retired, kind of ditching Shields since Roaf was the one to talk him out of it...i doubt Lilja had anything to do with anything on this.
