Meche, 8-9 4.31, vs. G. Smith, 5-9 3.90.

This appears to be an epic battle, as both pitchers bring a 1.32 WHIP into tonight's game. Also, both seem to be healthy and thus well suited to start.

DeJesus picked off first to end the first. Didn't get within 3 feet of the bag. Still smiles. Fans appreciate his positivity, which is a breath of fresh air compared to Guillen.

If a WR smiled after dropping a pass everyone would go apeshit...

This is pretty much the same logic as to why Mike Sweeney was a Royal for so long. He was a good guy and was great to media and fans, too bad half of his career he was on the DL.

No, not if he were a good dude. KC sports: home of the upstanding citizens.

More seriously, good point. Morton would have needed security to get out of the stadium if he smiled during the '03 playoff game.

I would agree with this. I'm very hopeful he isn't named Rookie of the Year, however, since this is the curse of death for the Royals.

With Murphy and especially Longoria, I wouldn't be too worried. However, I wouldn't mind if he has an explosive second half.

looks like some action in the bullpen by the way hillman gestured.

i dont see why not. the run at the plate would make it a one run game and meche's location is getting a little off her in the 7th. pitched a great game but maybe the setup man ought to be getting loose for the 8th.

Somebody HAS to catch it. I don't care who, and both players looked like they slowed up, expecting the other to take charge. You're right, though, that it's a much easier play for Teahen.

But, but...Teahen always plays balls out. 100 percent all the time...

Mahay with a scoreless inning. If he doesn't bring an organization's top 3 prospects, Moore's a idiat. He also loves the fans, Mahay, that is.

Only 2 strikeouts for Soria in a scoreless 9th? That's not good enough, and stuff like this will negatively affect his trade value.

Still, nice win for the Royals. 5-2. Brooms tomorrow.

If Soria ever starts I think he will need to add just a touch of velocity to his fastball to be really effective for 6-7 consecutive innings. Thoughts?

If Soria ever starts when he's this effective as a closer, I will personally put a foot up Dayton Moore's ass.

I always just get this feeling that if he had an inning or two to really get in the game he would REALLY start showing nasty stuff. Like at the end of last inning I had that feeling. I really can't explain it or justify it. Its just like... I get the feeling hes not actually warm when he gets out there. lol.

yeah, he is pitching extremely well lately. if they could get meche, bannister, and greinke to all get on a roll at the same time, they could really get hot. but unfortunately bannister has forgotten how to pitch.
