I like Grudz, but seeing him hit in the 3 spot makes me want to throw the **** up. However, I concede that there aren't many options. I'm just sayin...

Yeah, that would provide more pop.

Grudz at 3 screams, "Your lineup sucks." It's depressing, really.

This isnt on Hillman, that was 100% German. He is supposedly a very good bunter, and its perfectly legitimate to give him the green light to bunt if he's sure its a strike. German just F'd it up.

KCCHIEFS27
08-01-2008, 08:36 PM
You're giving a guy the green light with two strikes? A guy who had just performed two horrible bunt attempts..

alnorth
08-01-2008, 08:40 PM
You're giving a guy the green light with two strikes? A guy who had just performed two horrible bunt attempts..

IF he's a good bunter, then a foul or two doesnt cancel that out. He apparently does have a reputation for bunting, a couple pitches are completely irrelevant. So yes, you tell him to bunt if you think he's pretty good at it.

If it had been a clear strike that he fouled out on, oh well, thats just the way it is. I'm mad that he bunted at ball 4, not at the attempt itself.

DeezNutz
08-01-2008, 08:40 PM
German should have been able to get it down.

Still, I don't like bunting in that situation, especially since Maier was on deck.

KCCHIEFS27
08-01-2008, 08:46 PM
Should have been able to get it down, yes..but with two strikes just swing. Trying to bunt with two strikes is the dumbest thing to do in baseball. It's a difficult thing to pull back when a 90 mph fast ball is coming at you..but if he wasn't forced into a bunt situation I'm sure he could have figured out that the pitch would have been out of the zone.

Its dumb if the batter is worth a crap as a hitter. Since he isnt, and has a bunting reputation, then its probably his best chance at a productive AB.

It is amazing the number of former Royals relievers they've picked up. McDougal, Sisco, Carrasco, Dotel... didn't they have Bukvich too? Maybe that was someone else.
