anyone think Campell is going to get over the hump as a qb?

I do. I like him as a QB, and I thought he showed some flashes of greatness, yet makes some 'WTF' moments.

Hopefilly the West Coast Offense will suit him well in Washington. Case in point, he did play a WCO in his Sr. year at Auburn, where he put up very good numbers.

They need to get someone else other than Gretz to make the pitch for DT.

They've done that. They did a letter writing campaign that had all kinds of HOF'ers... Elway, Jim Kelly, etc... even Shanahan wrote a letter saying DT should be in. That was the first year he was eligible too, and it didn't work.

I'll give you 3 reasons DT isn't in the HOF...

1. He didn't win a bowl, in football being on a great team will get you in easier than being a great player, notice all the Steelers that are in and shit like that.

2. He played in KC if he had play on the east coast he'd likely be in..

3. He's dead, it hurts that he can't campaign for himself. Harry Carson essentially bitched his way in.

Interesting. I didn't realize that. His abscence from the hall makes even less sense to me now.

If Mecca is right about the reasons he listed, there shouldn't even be a HoF, imnsho. Derrick was a game changer, period. Yes, there were spots where he was invisible, but Jerry Rice dropped some sure TD catches, too.

I would love to see Gretz's presentation to the voters. I think it's been reported that he never changes it from year-to-year.

The NFL HOF has always rewarded good players on great teams more than great players on bad-good teams...

A good player from a 3 or 4 time superbowl winner will get in before a great player on a team that never won, look at Lynn Swann his numbers are pedestrian.

You could find it if you look hard enough, I don't know where it is. There was a big controversy the first year he didn't get in, because Dr. Z of SI said the presenter hurt DT's chances... so Gretz took a lot of heat, and posted his entire presentation on the Chiefs website, had a couple columns about it, etc. Plus listed off all the people who participated in the letter campaign, it was an impressive list.

The Chiefs conducted an active letter-writing campaign on Thomas' behalf, including letters from several Hall of Famers and current coaches such as Bill Walsh, Marv Levy, Bill Cowher, Marty Schottenheimer, Mike Shanahan, John Elway, Jim Kelly, Jackie Slater, Marcus Allen and Warren Moon, said Peterson. Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt also sent letters to the voters.

Which is a crock, because the Hall is set up to reward individual players for their achievments.

Problem is I'm not sure any of our guys are going to look that good against scrubs or non scrubs...

That's probably my only critique of the Chiefs draft 2 really good college QB's fell to the 6th round and we took a returner then went and signed a vet guy who is nothing more than a returner..

Probably should have taken one of those QB's.

I got absolutely flamed for wanting Brennan here... and now that he seems to be doing well in a pre-season games we get people coming out of the shed saying they wish we would have picked him up.

*sigh*

Don't look at me, I always said I liked the guy....

We probably should have.

I never commented on Brennan cause I hadn't really seen much of him.

But all I'm saying is that if you really liked him, and you are patting yourself on the back because of this performance, then you getting ahead of yourself.

Did anybody see the NFL Network's 10 best players not in the HOF today? Jerry Kramer was #1 and DT was #2. Cris Carter was on down the list somewhere.

"I believe those are the only 2 QB's worth a damn in the draft..."

Talking about Ryan and Brohm.

Brennan is a good QB, just has questions on his arm strength, which is justified at that time.

Really? Not only did his arm strength look good tonight, but it looked good at UH. He threw a lot of long passes there. The main criticism was that he was a system QB, and that he always played out of the shotgun. He looked fine under center tonight, so I don't think that will be a problem for him.

When I said "Justified at the time" It was during the Senior Bowl, which scouts were the ones that brought it up. Even I thought at times, looked a little iffy, but at the same time, it can be corrected by proper footwork. Zorn was right on one thing that to build up a QB, one has to start at their feet.

Brennan's footwork was for the most part, pretty good. Like that one throw to the receiver at the end zone after leaving the pocket to avoid the rush, where he stopped, planted, and followed through right into the WR's number.

That was a beauty. And the best thing for both Washington and Brennan, they both DO have the time to develop him.

Sorry then Mecca.
Then who am I confusing him with. Someone here just relished Brennans beat down in his Bowl game. In fact quite a few ragged on him all last year.

They did mention his proclivity to move the pocket. Something Zorn is going to have to rein in if he gets spooked easy and won't step up.

well it was a kick ass game even though manning was not in it, i didnt think that the skins would win, my loss in thoughts, but i was glad that the chiefs cousins won! it was one of the best pre season games that i have seen, all the rookies were pretty good, like hart, he was awesome to watch, very intertaining, he ran four times for 53 yards. it was a very entertaining game
