1.5 of my roomates in grad school were jews, they are among my best buddies to this day. I'd estimate 20% of our overall class were jews, I learned a lot about their ways and was invited to their homes for satir(sp?), etc.
Very fun and very funny people. Great food, good wine.

To a person they in some degree thought like these parents when it came to outsiders.
They liked and accepted me but when it came down to it I was a goi (sp?).
God forbid I was a schvartsa(sp?).

I had no problem with it, everybody protects their heritage how they see fit. It's a family thing IMO.
