I'll be in KC next Friday, 8/15. Just wondering if anyone would like to get together for dinner/drinks. Willie's on Grand at 9PM.

I thought you went to KC a while back. You should try someplace different this time, like Paris or Tokyo.

It's cheap, and I know people.

How about Beijing Luv? Take in an Olympic event?

I admit, it is hard to get to know people from Tokyo.

Also hard to go for just a weekend.

A few weeks ago is when I found out I would be going to KC next weekend. I was hunting for good, yet not too expensive places to go that weren't far from where I'm staying. I decided on Willie's unless you can suggest someplace not far from Gillham and 29th.

Is that near Springfield?

I have no clue where that is, but theres a bunch of cool stuff downtown (and I don't mean the P&L).

It's not far from Children's Mercy and Truman Medical Center.

you are closest to Martini corner (31st and Oak - Velvet dog, tower tavern, sol cantina, etc), but I prefer the Crossroads district .

Cool places - grinder's, balanca's, bulldog (next to bazooka's).

the cashew is good at 20th and Main.

Maybe it's because they knew I'd be there.

Somehow, I doubt it, but it's fun to pretend I'm that important.

I'd drive home from Crown Center a year or two ago, and it was eerily quite throughout downtown... people would say there was crime downtown, but I don't even think criminals hung out there.

The United States is coming up!

How about Davey's Uptown Rambler's Club? 35th and Main.

Not that anyone's planning on showing up, but I just thought I'd say that the earliest I could do drinks on Friday would be 9pm. With all of the shit going down at work, I can't afford not to be there. Thus, I won't be leaving for KC until about 5-5:30 that evening.

Cuz nothing frightens me more than 200k condos and Martini Corner.

Yeah, I was surprised to hear about it being a bad part of town. I'm borrowing a friend's loft that has security passcodes to get in. Sounded rather nice to me.

Its not a bad part of town. I used to live in the neighborhood. This is literally the corner of 29th and Gillham. They go for $249,000 to $579,000.

it's not like the whole area is just like that half a block in the photo.

go to google maps, street view, and then look there, and click around a few blocks in each direction. pan the camera around in circles. this is a good way to get some ideas.

I've done that, but the pictures look like they're a little old. I think the condos that KCunited showed were just being built in the picture I saw of it.

I don't need a google map, I used to live there, and would live their again with my wife and kids if I had any. Thats just silly.

It's not a bad part of town... it's not the suburbs, but I'd say most of the crime is east and then north and south of that area.
