View Full Version : Misc What do you do for lunch?

On a typical workday (whatever hours that may be for you), what do you typically do for lunch? Eat at work, go out, go home.....?

I typically come home. I don't want to spend an hour at work (unless I'm completely swamped), I can't afford to eat out all the time, and I only live about 5 minutes from work. I do eat out on occasion, but I typically come home.

Ha ha. I had a friend who would always say "clothes" when I asked what I should wear somewhere.

It would take me over an hour to get home and back, so I eat downtown. Most of the time, I try and bring a lunch of some sort, but I probably eat out once or twice a week on average.

Always good to get the obligatory pointless responses early in the thread...

I go home. I am too poor to eat out. Sometimes I bring it in and bail at 4. I should do that all the time, but I REALLY like the break.

Generally 30min lunch brought from home - cheap & fast. On Fridays I usually play restaurant roulette with my friends.

On average the company buys my lunch a couple of times a week (customer visits, working lunches). Otherwise, it's a local restaurant.

I typically just run out and grab something, although I occasionally bring leftovers. There's certainly no shortage of restaurants in downtown Chicago. Normally I'll the food back to the office and eat lunch with my friends.

I go home for lunch on most days, it's nice living close to work. On days I know I won't have time to leave I bring leftovers or a sandwich. There's a pizza and sub shop right next door but unfortunately their food is pretty bad.

I like living close to work, too. However, that's going to change in October. The company that bought us out is about a 20 drive from my place. I don't go to that side of town very often, so I'm not really sure what's close.

I'm hit and miss.

I work out of the house, but am out and about quite a bit. Some days leftovers, some days sandwiches, some days a local restaraunt.

Today, 2pm, stop on the way back through for some Casey's chicken breast strips and a creme soda.

I usually go out to the car and drink a half pint of Old Grandad I keep hidden under the seat. Before I go back in I chew some gum and spritz myself with Old Spice. Lately I'm finding myself needing to take a break again in the afternoon, my "lunch" seems to be wearing off faster these days.

We have breakfast and lunch served everyday in the commissary. The selection can get a little boring, like "what sauce is on the chicken today?", but there is always a salad bar and a sandwich bar and a grill for burgers and such if the hot meal isn't to your liking. Pretty nice perk when costs of food have gone up so much.

today was barbeque brisket, mashed potatoes, and grilled vegetables

I pack my lunch. I've always had an hour lunch but it thankfully is only 1/2 hour at my new job. I much prefer getting off earlier and keeping my lunch break to only enough time to eat and smoke. I used too eat out all the time, and this place I'm at has plenty of options around. Since I've started being more health conscious with my eating I've discovered how much I like my money, and don't plan on eating out very often in the future. Quite a change from the old norm.

It really varies with me, it depends on where I'm working. If I'm close enough I'll go home, sometimes I'll grab fast food, if I'm working somewhere that has a microwave accessible I'll bring leftovers. Or if I'm working on a house on a farm in the middle of nowhere in Iowa with a gutted kitchen like I was last month, I'll bring my grill with me and cook burgers or brats for lunch.

I usually just bring a bunch of junk food and snack through out the day, I never really take a lunch and eat. For example, I brough some fig newtons, a banana, 2 pks of cheese snacks and a mountain dew, I will just much around till time to go home in the morning and then take a shower and go to bed. I rarely eat a regular meal. Been a bad habit most of my life, not eating right. Oh well:)

No unfortunately, I inherited some funky genes that makes it very hard to gain weight, some people say thats a problem they wish they had, but if I went a day or two without eating I would lose like 3 pounds and I could eat solid for 3 days and maybe gain a pound. I don't really like that, I would like to get up to 130, but can't seem to get over 124.:deevee:

I usually get on the internet at noon, then after I log out at 1:00, I'll eat my Nature Valley peanut granola bar and crack open a cherry coke zero for my "lunch".

About once a week, if I've read everything on the internet during a slow morning, I'll head out to Jimmy John's / Chipotle / Panera during my lunch hour.

My preferences, in order are:

1. Go to a Chinese resturant that is about a 10 minute walk from my office and order five flavor chick or curry chicken. I do this about twice a month. Great food, I enjoy the walk and it gets me out of the office.

2. Bring some leftovers from home. Heat it in the microwave and eat at my desk. I haven't been cooking as much lately so I've only had this option available about once a week.

3. We have this sandwhich shop on campus that is run by a guy named Ray who is blind. He has about the most optimistic outlook on life of anyone I've ever met. I enjoy making a little small talk with him. On Tuesdays and Fridays he has BBQ from Sam's Club. Not real BBQ, but it tastes pretty good, considering. I eat it at my desk. I probably do this about twice every 3 weeks.

4. Go to Ray's for a turkey sandwich and a yogurt or piece of fruit. This is not an enjoyable lunch, but is easy and low in fat. Recently I've done this most often, probaly on average 2 to 3 times a week. Again I eat this at my desk.

5. Bring a sandwich from home. Dullsville, plus I have to make it. Only do it on average once every couple of weeks.
