I have been hearing people say how we should trade LJ or cut Mcintosh, but they are shot down by others who say we can't due to the salary cap and their contracts. Is that really the case though? I mean, McIntosh only recieved a $5million signing bonus. His cap number this year is $2.7million. Since we counted 850,000 last year, his prorated bonus would be 4,150,000. It is after June first, so that amount could be split, making the cap hit a little over 2mil. a savings on the cap. LJ had a 12mil bonus over 6 years making his a harder hit. split it over 2 years and it is 5mil this year. His cap number is 5.6 mil for this year. Not to mention, last I heard we had 27mil in cap space in March. I know we did not use all that up, probably not even half of it, so the bonuses could probably be absorbed in this years cap. Am I right? Or am I missing something. Here is a list of players cap numbers for this year.

Also, gone is Wesley $4million cap number. I dont know if there was any accelerated bonus on him, but it couldn't be much.

I don't know the exact numbers, but I have to think the Chiefs are pretty close to the minimum cap spending as mandated by the CBA.

Yeah, they have to be. The minimum is 86.5% IIRC. Our number was also inflated this year due to unearned bonuses. Our cap was $128million, and with the lack of spending this year, I don't see how they could have used up that much. Here is a team by team cap number list

TEAM-BY-TEAM ADJUSTED CAP NUMBERS

Though it’s generally known that the per-team spending limit for 2008 is $116 million ($116,729,000, to be exact), each team has an adjusted cap number. The variations are due in large part to so-called likely to be earned incentives (LTBEs) that were charged against the 2007 cap but then carried over when not earned, and so-called not likely to be earned incentives (NLTBEs) that were not charged against the 2007 cap but earned in 2007 and thus charged in 2008.

We’ve got the full list of each team’s adjusted salary cap for 2008, on the other side of the “read here for more” thingamajig.
