Is this a good enough laptop for a college kid who only needs it for notes/web browsing and portability?

I like the ram, don't like the Vista...I already have a nice PC but I'm really looking for a good value laptop...this seems like a good deal...if you have a better idea for under $650 with a link, let me know...

I wouldn't buy a laptop with that small of a screen. I'll try and do better.

My gf has a Compaq and loves it (and I've used it too, and it's not bad). It's not good for games (at least the new ones), but it's still useable...

I actually just purchased a laptop from newegg last week. It was only a 100 more than that one and it works great. By the way Acer is a great product/company. They recently bought out Gateway.

Fair enough. HP has the worst customer service on the planet, but this is a better deal IMO.

That TK-57 chip blows. It only has half the cache of a Turion, which is still a very affordable processor for a laptop. If you are going to get a value-laptop look at something with a TL-60 chip in it or thereabouts.

This computer has a faster chip, more RAM, bigger HD, bigger screen, and is the same price:

It may still be available at some BB's b/c their ads start on Sunday and they usually have good stock of those laptops, at least for the first few days of the ad. If they run out, Sunday morning is the time to go.
