getting our 11 yr old son an electric/amp combo for his upcoming birthday. he seems really keen to learn, but until he gets a little finger pain, we won't know. starting out with 30 minute lesson per week.

Pretty good recent thread about this over there. The kids dad must be a sucker if he is looking at 2k guitars for the kid.

My son downloaded some Guitar Pro thingy onto our computer a while back. I don't know what it does or where he found it, but he seems to use it a lot.

You better watch for hidden porn files if he already knows how to steal that. lmao

You're giving me way to much credit if you think I know how to hide a file. I've had this computer for 5 years and I still don't know wtf the second disc drive on it is used for.

Well duh, it's for when the first one breaks down.

That would make sense if it actually did what the top one does, but it doesn't. In fact, other than open and close, it doesn't seem to do anything at all.

Why would you ever want to play guitar? It's a waste of time. I just download the song, and I listen to it. No work whatsoever, and saves me the time of actually having to learn. Bring up winamp, push play, and I can play any guitar riff ever.

finger pain is common. that will go away after a while of practice. the strings cut into your fingers and your hand cramps from stretching. The most important thing to remember with lessons is he has to understand and enjoy what the teacher is teaching him.

The best "tip" I could give you is to encourage your son's playing and remind him that music comes from inside so he can choose to learn to play the guitar or learn to be a guitarist.
