Feely Goes Wide Right
August 26, 2008 - Bob Gretz |

It’s been an interesting two days in the world of kickers and the Kansas City Chiefs.

To reach the NFL roster limit of 75, the Chiefs final cut was Jay Feely, the veteran kicker they signed on Monday.

They will go into the pre-season finale with both kickers that went through training camp: Nick Novak and Connor Barth.

So what happened? The Chiefs aren’t saying anything publicly at this time and haven’t even announced the move.

But all three kickers had a kickoff the last three days and the order of finish for most field goals made was Barth, Novak and then Feely.

It’s impressive to see Barth respond to the competition. More on this to come.

If this was their methodology, why didn't they can Novak too?

Whoever they keep will lose five games minimum.

Only Herm and the Chiefs would be so gay about a kicker.

counting on W's by 3 points.

At least this year that won't be the only reason we only win two games.

If that were true he would do a much better job of selecting his PK.

What's the over/under on how many FG attempts are returned for TDs by the opposition?

I'm sure this has been beat to death but I heard on the radio that out of 30 kicks Feeley was the worst at 23 of 30 with Barth hitting 27 of 30. Feeley only missed 2 or 3 FG's all of last season and wasn't given any time to acclimate to a new snapper and holder.

I'm sorta amazed that the kicker position fiasco has led to so many threads. Does any one on this board really believe Feeley was some how going to keep the chiefs from being the worst team in the NFL this year? Shhesh we are going to lose 13 or 14 or maybe even 16 games this year with or without feeley. Who really gives a crap if he's the kicker or not.

Don't worry after a couple games they'll be out looking for another kicker, this team is anal about that position.

And that would be true with Feeley also. Really who cares.
