Breaking news tonight. Still in the 'if' stage at this point.

Can't provide a link atm.

What do you think?

I kinda think it might be a bad idea for Randy. Lesnar's a freak.

Oh so now the pro wrestler is a draw eh?

KcMizzou

I thought Lesnar was fighting Congo next.

That makes more sense, in my mind.

I dunno, though... I suppose Couture/Lesnar would sell tons of PPV, and Randy could take a step toward finishing his contract.

Doesn't he owe ZUFFA two fights?

Makes more sense to Lesnar I think. Anybody can lose any fight in MMA, part of the draw of the sport, and I'd say it's better to lose to Couture than to Congo.

Also, it could be a title fight. Couture is still technically champion.

I think this would be a huge, huge draw in terms of ppv buys.

Oh so now the pro wrestler is a draw eh?Actually, yes, he is.

He was beating the hell out of Frank Mir in his first fight... before he got caught in an ankle lock.

Pro wrestling or not... nobody's saying Lesnar isn't a bad dude. He dominated Heath Herring. (Who's a respectable HW)

He's got a lot to learn... but yeah... he's obviously a draw.

Hey I like pro wrestling so I wasn't bagging the guy.

KcMizzou
08-30-2008, 01:05 AM
The thing is... Brock decided for fight for real.

And he didn't go the Kimbo Slice route. (Automatic champ... fighting cans... protected)

Lesnar jumped into the UFC.. lost.. and he's learning from it. Getting better.

I'm not a pro wrestling fan at all... but I respect the way this guy's gone about entering MMA.

I could have done without his antics after beating up Herring... but I suppose that's his WWF roots. He'll learn a little class and sportsmanship.

Couture/Nog is a far more interesting fight...but so what?

Lesnar caught a terrible wrestler in Herring with a solid right...and pretty much layed and prayed for the win. Brock would have his hands full with Couture. Randy's a very solid wrestler in his own right...and his "dirty boxing" his effective. I don't know that Lesnar would be able to butt **** him for the win. Once Brock had Herring down...he was lost...aside from the odd hammer fist.

Off topic...but it just goes to show what a joke Kimbo Slice is. He wouldn't last 2 minutes with a very green Brock Lesnar. Instead Kimbo gets Ken "The World's Most Dangerous Take a Diver" Shamrock. There are only three good things about EliteXC...Gina Carano's tits...and Crazy Nick Diaz.

That said, speaking of Kimbo... Dana said BJ Penn would beat him.

Personally, I agree... Kimbo's bigger, whatever... BJ'd win.

Now, they asked Uriah Faber about it. Faber said he'd give BJ a 90% chance of winning.

Personally, I think Uriah could probably take Kimbo out himself.

Kimbo's a joke. I appreciate what he's trying to do... but he's just not ready.

I think even little guys, who are the best, would own him.

Penn... Faber? What do you think?

There are actually pictures on the net of Faber and Penn rolling in Hawaii. Faber is getting choked. Penn is a natural fighter. He fought friggin' Machida at 205. Right now he's all but unbeatable at lightweight. His bjj is top notch...his stand up comes natural to him...and he doesn't cut. His cardio and devotion is what's held him back. Saying that...GSP is a better, and much stronger athlete...and I think he pounds BJ out within three rounds in their "upcoming" fight. Rush is explosive...he made John Fitch look new.

The fight I want to see (aside from Fedor Vs. not a tomato can)* is Faber/Kid Yamamoto. That fight would be surreal. Faber has already said he'll go down to 135 to make it happen. The only thing standing in the way is the do-re-mi.

*I wouldn't mind an Aleks/Sylvia tilt either.

GSP vs. Penn... I'm rooting for Penn.

There's something about GSP that annoys the shit out of me. I know BJ can be a cocky prick, but still... I think it's GSP's legion of bandwagon (nuthugging... in MMA terms) fans that just turn me off.

I'd like to see BJ Penn **** him up. Like lil' old Matt Serra did.

GSP just pisses me off for some reason.

Funny story:

My high school gym teacher's final college wrestling match was against Couture for All-American honors @ NCAA's. He lost to him that night, but beat him several times before, including Big 8's.

I know him mostly for his losses... against Chuck "The Ice Man" Lidell.

I have nothing but respect for Randy. If your coach beat him at anything... at any level... he deserves props. The dude's 43 or so... still itching for a fight.

(and it's a title fight)

Lesnar vs. Couture official (http://www.f4wonline.com/content/view/6606/124/)

By Bryan Alvarez
figure4@ix.netcom.com

Dana White just announced that on November 15th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas it will be UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesnar. It will be a five-round fight for the title, and the winner will face the winner of December's Antonio Nogueira vs. Frank Mir Interim Title fight.

IF Lesnar has anything on Couture, its stamina.

Brock is a freaking animal and probably trains harder than most people in that sport just from his background.

Don't know what you were trying to link to but I got this far and stopped: "Jeff "The Snowman" Monson was born on January 18th, 1971. He spent his childhood in Olympia, Washington. Besides Jeff Monson (http://www.ultimate-fighter.ca/ufc-fighter.php?id=30)'s political and social views, he is a member of the American Top Team. By many MMA experts he is consider to be one of the worlds top submission grapplers. At 5'9" tall and 240lbs of solid muscle and at 33 years of age...."

I was also born in 1971 but for some reason I'm 37. Must be a very old article huh. Whats the point?

It's ok, I was just wonderin'. Lesnar is no slouch. Sure he has a lot to learn but his overwhelming size and uncanny quickness coupled with top notch athleticism make him a tough matchup for anyone. I think Couture will submit him in the first or second round honestly but Lesnar always has a fighting chance for sure. Lesnar vs. Congo would have proably been a one sided wrestling match with Lesnar coming out on top and more than likely would have been a very boring fight since Congo has NO ground game. On the other hand, WHAT has Lesnar done to deserve a matchup against Couture??? I know, it's all about the ratings but that is a crock.

keg in kc
09-02-2008, 03:57 PM
It's not about ratings, it's about money. This will be the biggest pay-per-view of the year I'd guess, and one of the biggest of all time. It's business, plain and simple.

And you have to do it now, because Lesnar may be a bigger draw now than he'll ever be. At least that's the case if he loses again, to anybody, in the next 12 months...

This is striking while the iron is hot, and I'd imagine the specials on Spike leading up to the fight will be something to behold. I mean, the fight's two-and-a-half months off and it's already more newsworthy than the pay-per-view on saturday.

rumors also say if coture wins that the ufc is negotiating with m1 to put coture v fedor early 09 wow great fight. one thing dana said would NEVER happen a cross-promotional fight. wonder if fertita stepped in and took that over as well.(the fertita who quit the casino to be co-pres. of the ufc with dana.

on the bj v gsp fight i hope bj KILLS gsp BUT bj always gets fat when he goes up in weight and gasses quick. maybe he should stay at his optimal weight and fight lighter.he still has heavier hands than gsp.

Herring was no slouch, Kimbo hasn't fought anyone of the caliber of Mir or Herring. To Lesnars credit he was putting a hurting on Mir for about a minute till he got sloppy and Herring was basically done after the first punch of the fight that crushed his melon! Kimbo almost went the distance against a guy who had lost 7 straight...if it wasn't for a "lucky" punch to super swole cauliflower ear Kimbo's boring fight would have had to go to the judges and it was 50/50 at that point. No comparison.

A member of the CSAC went on record saying that Aleks won't be fighting in the U.S. as all athletic commissions honor each other's ruling(s). I'll hunt down a link a bit later.

The CSAC is shady. First they **** up the steroid testing re: Sean Sherk and cover it up. Then they yank Crazy Nick from a card because he divulged that he had a pot card...even though he pissed clean.

(Edit: Found this on another forum...but haven't looked deeply enough to verify any of it.)

California State Athletic Commission Official Bill Douglas was a guest recently on the Figure Four Daily radio show that airs on The Wrestling Observer and Mr. Douglas shed a little light on the controversay surrounding the reasoning behind Aleksander Emelianenko being removed from his scheduled bout with Paul Buentello at Affliction's debut show on July 19th.

"The one thing that I can absolutely say is that he (Aleksander) was not and will not be cleared to fight in California." the official told FFD Radio "He is officially licensed denied and that will stand for all of the United States of America".
