In a way it's a no win for the pats. With the already foregone conclusion that the Chiefs will in no way be able to win, for the Pats, it's like being the one chosen to wrestle against the girls team.

For them, if they win, so what - they're supposed to. But if they lose...wow - total embarassment.

Nope. The way it used to be, the winner of the coin toss got to pick what to do in the first half, the loser got the second half. So even if you choose to kick off in the first half, the other team could choose to receive in the second half. For that reason, no one EVER chose to kick off.

Good Luck Today!

If I was the New England Patriots -- I'd be worried about Bowe going into this game.

Patriots secondary is weak. CB's Hobbs or rookie Wheatley will never be able to cover him.

I'm not sure if anyone watched Philly at NE preseason game. A. Samuels put an unbelievable hit on Randy Moss for -5 yds a couple of weeks ago. Letting Samuels go, is going to cost NE big time this season.

Nope. The way it used to be, the winner of the coin toss got to pick what to do in the first half, the loser got the second half. So even if you choose to kick off in the first half, the other team could choose to receive in the second half. For that reason, no one EVER chose to kick off.

so whats different?

If a team won the toss and chose to kick, they would recieve in the second half..

Now if they defer, the other team gets to choose for the first half, and the team that deferred gets to choose in the second half.. obviously the team that deferred isnt going to choose to kickoff to start the second half...

Your first statement is incorrect. Under the old rule, the coin toss only determined which team got to CHOOSE first. However, the choice of the team in the first half in no way affected the choice of the team in the second half. So potentially, if a team chose to kick off in the first half, the other team could make them kick off again in the second half.

Now, the winner of the coin toss can defer their DECISION until the second half. In most cases, that means that they're choosing to kick off in the first half and receive in the second.

I get it now..instead of choosing to kick off for the first half and receiving in the second half, you defer your choice to the second half, but still get to choose which goal you defend.

Well I hope that it's not a long day for our corners. If we can contain the Brady scoring machine we might have a chance (not buying that the Patriots have an unstoppable defensive gauntlet -- but if we're forced into a passing attack it will look that way).

Very excited to see what these young guys can do. Win or lose.
