How the Chiefs and Patriots scored (http://www.kansascity.com/sports/chiefs/story/786642.html)

•KEY PLAYS: The Chiefs made their first rookie mistake early. Brandon Flowers was penalized for running into New England punter Chris Hanson on the opening possession. The Chiefs got the ball back two plays later when Patrick Surtain stripped the ball from Wes Welker and Jarrad Page recovered. … The Chiefs went three plays and punted. … The Chiefs knocked Tom Brady from the game and came up with another takeaway on the next New England possession. … The Chiefs then went on an efficient drive into New England territory. Brodie Croyle threw to Tony Gonzalez between two defenders for 8 yards on third and 5. Jamaal Charles dropped a pass in the flat on third down, ending the drive, but the Chiefs downed their punt at the 2. Matt Cassel came in at quarterback for the Patriots. The Chiefs had the Patriots pinned on third and 11 at the 1, but Moss beat Surtain deep for a 51-yard gain on the last play of the period.

•PATRIOTS: Moss 10 pass from Cassel (Stephen Gostkowski kick); 10 plays, 98 yards, 4:51 drive time, 11:45 remaining.

•CHIEFS: FG Nick Novak 40; 13 plays, 51 yards, 5:43, 0:17.

•KEY PLAYS: Sammy Morris broke Derrick Johnson’s tackle attempt near the line of scrimmage on a 22-yard run that put the Patriots on the Chiefs’ 12. Moss’ TD came on third down. … The Chiefs put together a drive late in the period. Croyle’s 20-yard pass to Gonzalez on third and 3 put the Chiefs at the New England 24. The drive soon stalled, and the Chiefs settled for the field goal.

•PATRIOTS: Morris 5 run (Gostkowski kick); 11 plays, 80 yards, 6:14 drive time, 3:01 remaining.

•KEY PLAYS: The Chiefs converted twice on third down on their first possession of the period. Croyle passed 11 yards to Dwayne Bowe on third and 7, and Jamaal Charles ran for 5 yards on third and 4. That play put the Chiefs on the New England 49, but Croyle was sacked on the next third-down play and the Chiefs punted. Croyle injured his shoulder on the sack and Damon Huard entered the game. … The Patriots ran on seven plays in their first possession, gaining 41 yards and finishing the drive with the touchdown.

•CHIEFS: Bowe 13 pass from Huard (Novak kick); 10 plays, 63 yards, 4:55 drive time, 13:06 remaining.

•PATRIOTS: FG Gostkowski 37; 10 plays, 34 yards, 4:55, 2:26.

•KEY PLAYS: Ellis Hobbs returned the kickoff after Bowe’s TD 51 yards to the Chiefs’ 36. Derrick Johnson’s third-down sack knocked the Patriots from field-goal position and they had to punt. … The teams again traded punts, and Huard made a horrible decision when he tried to jam a throw into coverage for Bowe. Hobbs intercepted, and the Patriots took over at their 47. That led to the field goal. … Thanks to Huard’s 68-yard pass to Devard Darling, the Chiefs ran four plays from the New England 5 in the final minute but couldn’t score.

All you people, you know, you're all upset about us having four plays within the five at the end of the game with the chance to tie. You're, you know, upset because we didn't score.

But it's okay! We stuck to our gameplan. That's the most important thing to take away from this. We ate up a lot of time on that last possession. They took over with terrible field position, you know, and not enough time to go for a score before the end of the game. We kept it close. Within a possession. That's what you have to do. Keep it close at the end of the game.

So stop complaining! It's OK!

I hope we get that trophy for most "CLOSE" games at the end of the year/the Lomclosey!

Look, you have to play to win the game. Okay? Two yards every play, that's all you need.
