WTF?

Harry Ingle Martin IV (born August 15 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_15), 1982 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1982) in Memphis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memphis,_Tennessee), Tennesse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tennesse)) is an American football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_football) quarterback (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quarterback), who is currently a free agent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_agent). He was selected in the fifth round (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_NFL_Draft#Round_five) of the 2006 NFL Draft (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_NFL_Draft) out of Furman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furman_University#Athletics) by the Green Bay Packers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Bay_Packers).
Martin spent 2006 with the Packers and served as the third-string quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Rodgers) and starter Brett Favre (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brett_Favre). On August 25, 2007, he was released[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingle_Martin#cite_note-0), but the Titans signed him to their practice squad on September 2

START HIM THIS WEEK! He can definitely avoid a pass rush better than Huard.

Why would we sign him over Chris Simms? I wonder who we are going to release.

The Titans decided to only go with 2 QBs this season (Vince Young and Kerry Collins) which allowed them to cut Ingle Martin. Martin completed 13 of 25 passes this preseason (52%) for 185 yards with 0 TD passes and 0 interceptions (76.2 QB Rating). He also carried the football 6 times for 18 yards (3.0 ypc) in the preseason.

Packers cut him and then draft two QB's, he goes to the Titans who cut him after a year and instead of bringing him back after Young goes down they are looking at Harrington and someone else... He sounds like a winner.

For those of you who don't know, here's some info on Ingle Martin;

Parade All American and Elite 11 QB at Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, TN, where he won 3 consecutive football titles and back to back basketball state titles. Two time TN player of the year. Played QB, K, P, and FS in high school.

Recruited by Spurrier, who knows quarterbacks to UF, where he backed up Rex Grossman. Played well when given the opportunity before Zook replaced him with Chris Leak. Zook never really gave him a chance. While at UF, Ingle saw game action as a WR, P, and QB.

Transferred to Furman, where he lead the Paladins deep into the playoffs two years in a row. Played punter, kicker, and QB. Won All American honors as a punter, and all conference honors as a QB.

Drafted by Green Bay and released after 1 year when the Pack only kept 2 QBs on the roster. Threw the ball harder than any other QB at the combine (Croyle, Cutler, Young, Leinart).

Picked up by the Titans on the practice squad last year. Played very well this fall, including a game winning 2 minute drill against the raiders. Was also punting and kicking field goals when Bironas went down, and although he never kicked one in a game, he did a good job.

Although relatively unknown, you've got a very athletic QB here. Deceptively fast and quick, he's also 6'3" 220 lbs. He can run and throw. He's also someone you don't have to worry about off the field. I wouldn't give up on him before you give him a try. Could be another Romo waiting to happen.

I really don't dislike this move. He'd probably be content with being our 3rd stringer after this season. He could come in, play for a few weeks until Brodie comes back, then if Croyle goes down again, fill in instead of Hutard.

Then when the season ends and we draft a QB, we'd have:

Stafford??/Croyle/Martin.

Then we could drop Hutard and Pigpen forever. I'd love that.

Speaking of hard throws, quarterbacks had their passes measured for speed and Furman’s Ingle Martin, who is opening some eyes this weekend, led all passers with a 65 mph throw. Jay Cutler checked in at 60 mph, Brodie Croyle threw it 58 mph, Alabama State’s Tarvaris Jackson manages 57 mph and Bruce Eugene threw the ball 55 mph.

This move just confirms the youth movement.

It also appears the front office is trying to avoid a QB controversy once Croyle's ready to return.

Personally, I like it. This team isn't going anywhere and while Chris Simms might be able to add a few W's to the win column, he's certainly not a long term solution.

And the Chiefs need to be at the top of the draft to assure high-level talent to continue the rebuilding project.

NFL network just reported Simms in going to Tennessee. I'm sure this has already been posted.

Just backed up and re-watched. The Titans got ahold of Simms while he was in KC, they basically agreed to a deal over the phone contingent upon passing a physical. Simms hopped on a plane and headed to TN. KC in return got Ingle Martin off the Titan's practice squad. Could this move be on to get back at TN for snatching Simms away from KC?

That way when we draft a QB next year, we'll have successfully groomed Croyle to be our back-up and Martin to be the third stringer.

And Huard and Thigpin can get the f*ck outta KC.

It's hilarious that the Chiefs for years went with the veteran presence at QB.

Now they are so stubborn about going young, they are resting all their chips on the fragile body of Brodie.

It's either one extreme or another with Carl.

From 1994-2001, he was trying to build a team heavy on defense and ignored the offense. From 2001-2006, he was trying to build a team heavy on offense, while really putting the defense on the burner.

Why can't he achieve any balance in his job?

GB's had some decent luck with QB's so maybe there is something about the guy. People didn't want an old retread, so they got a young guy with potential.

Interesting side note on this signing of Simms as well....per Rotoworld

Report: Titans moving on from uncertain Young

The Nashville Tennessean reports Vince Young on Monday "indicated to those around him he didn't want to play football any more." The Titans may be planning to move on without him.
This isn't the first time we've heard this from Young. And "there are indications" the team is ready to move forward with Kerry Collins, even when Young gets healthy. And that assumes Young even wants his job back. Young's mother, rightly concerned, pleaded for people to give her son "space" and "love." But it won't be so simple. A psychologist reported Young was "extremely depressed" and one wonders when (and if) he'll see the field again. Sep. 9 - 10:43 pm et

I don't see how some people can really be that upset with this signing...

I mean Chris Simms? WTF has he proven besides having the same last name as his daddy, or Tim Rattay? Come on. He's like eleventy-billion years old. We might as well sign a practic squad scrub than these two guys.

They're just well-known scrubs, we signed a nobody scrub.

Huard will get all the snaps until Brodie gets healthy. Then Brodie plays until he gets injured again, and by that time..who know, Martin might step in. Then when the season is over; we draft a QB, Brodie becomes our #2, Martin becomes #3 and we shit-can Hutard and Pigpen.

Or we stick with Brodie, get a younger back-up QB, and keep Hutard on the 3rd string.

He may not be a better QB than Hutard, but I've never seen him play and I'm certain he's better than Thiggy.

Drop kick is not a punt.

In both American football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_football) and Canadian football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_football), one method of scoring a field goal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_goal_%28football%29) or extra point (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extra_point) is by drop-kicking the football through the goal.
The drop kick was often used in early football as a surprise tactic. The ball would be snapped (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snap_%28football%29) or lateraled (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lateral_pass) to a back, who would perhaps fake a run or pass, but then would kick the field goal instead.
This method of scoring worked well in the 1920s and 1930s, when the football was rounder at the ends (similar to a modern rugby ball). Early football stars such as Jim Thorpe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Thorpe) and Paddy Driscoll (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paddy_Driscoll) were skilled drop-kickers.
In 1934, the ball was made more pointed at the ends. This made passing the ball easier, as was its intent, but made the drop kick obsolete, as the more pointed ball did not bounce up from the ground reliably. The drop kick was supplanted by the place kick, which cannot be attempted out of a formation generally used as a running or passing set. The drop kick remains in the rules, but is seldom seen, and rarely effective when attempted.
The only successful drop kick in the last sixty-plus years in the NFL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL) was by Doug Flutie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doug_Flutie), the backup quarterback (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quarterback) of the New England Patriots (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_England_Patriots), against the Miami Dolphins (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miami_Dolphins) on January 1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_1), 2006 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006) for an extra point (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extra_point) after a touchdown pass by third-string quarterback Matt Cassel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Cassel). Since Doug Flutie estimated that he had "probably an 80 percent chance" of making a drop kick[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drop_kick#cite_note-autogenerated1-1) and regular place-kicked point after attempts have a much higher probability of being good, the kick was not a strategic move. After the game, New England coach Bill Belichick (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Belichick) said "I think Doug deserves it"[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drop_kick#cite_note-2) and Flutie said "I just thanked him for the opportunity".[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drop_kick#cite_note-autogenerated1-1) (The play was probably attempted due to the fact that Flutie, who was 42 at the time, was playing in his final NFL game. Indeed, the drop kick was his last play in an NFL uniform.) The last successful drop kick in the NFL before that was executed by Ray "Scooter" McLean (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_%28Scooter%29_McLean) of the Chicago Bears (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Bears) in their 37-9 victory over the New York Giants (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Giants) on December 21 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/December_21), 1941 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1941) in the NFL championship (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL_Championship_Game,_1941) game at Chicago's Wrigley Field (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrigley_Field). Though it wasn't part of the NFL at the time, the All-America Football Conference (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-America_Football_Conference) saw its last drop kick November 28 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/November_28), 1948 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1948) when Joe Vetrano (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Joe_Vetrano&action=edit&redlink=1) of the San Francisco 49ers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco_49ers) drop kicked an extra point after a muffed snap against the Cleveland Browns (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_Browns).[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drop_kick#cite_note-3)
Prior to Flutie's historic drop-kick, the only recent vocal proponent of the drop-kick in the NFL had been Jim McMahon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_McMahon), quarterback for several NFL teams. During the 1980s, while playing in Chicago, McMahon regularly practiced the drop kick, and was known to frequently petition Bears (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Bears) head coach Mike Ditka (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Ditka) for an opportunity to use the maneuver. Ditka, who regarded the play as an anachronism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anachronism), never allowed it.
In August 1974, Tom Wilkinson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Wilkinson_%28football_player%29), quarterback for the Edmonton Eskimos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edmonton_Eskimos), attempted a drop-kick field goal in the final seconds of a 20-2 romp over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winnipeg_Blue_Bombers). He missed. This may have been the last time the play was deliberately attempted in the CFL.
Exclusively in Canadian football, the drop kick can be attempted beyond or behind the line of scrimmage. Any player on the kicking team behind the kicker, and including the kicker, can recover the kick. A drop kick that goes out of bounds is considered a change of possession.
During one game in the 1980s Hamilton Tiger-Cats (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamilton_Tiger-Cats) wide receiver Earl Winfield (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_Winfield) was unable to field properly a punt and in frustration he kicked the ball out of bounds. The kick was considered a drop kick and it led to a change of possession and the team that punted regained possession of the ball.
The last successful drop kick extra point in NCAA was by Aaron Fitzgerald of the University of LaVerne on November 10 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/November_10), 1990 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1990) against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drop_kick#cite_note-4)
In popular media, a drop kick was successfully attempted in the Burt Reynolds (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burt_Reynolds) film The Longest Yard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Longest_Yard_%281974_film%29), complete with an explanation by Reynold's character of its proper name and point value to a player (Ray Nitschke (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Nitschke)'s character) on the opposing team.
Because it is a relatively obscure and obsolete maneuver in American and Canadian football today, sport laymen often confuse the term "drop-kick" for a punt.

He may not be a better QB than Hutard, but I've never seen him play and I'm certain he's better than Thiggy.

So.... you're talking out of your ass?

dIngle Martin is great at one-hopping a pass to a WR on a 10 yard route. He's garbage. Terrible. He should have never been drafted, never signed as a UDFA, never given a chance in the NFL yet he was somehow taken and has lasted for a few years. Unreal.

The problem isn't that they were trying to build on one side of the ball or the other specifically.

The problem is that Carl let the ****ing idiots he hired to coach this team have too large a voice in the draft, and the ****ing morons made bad selections because they are piss poor talent evaluators on the side of the ball that they couldn't get fixed.

Played well when given the opportunity before Zook replaced him with Chris Leak. Zook never really gave him a chance. While at UF, Ingle saw game action as a WR, P, and QB.

That's a load of bullshit. He was terrible at UF. He would underthrow receivers, one-hop it to a diving WR, etc. He was horrific. He also sucked at punting. When he transferred to Furman he, reportedly, tore it up there but while at UF he was awful and everyone wanted him on the bench.

wonder why we cut 2????

We cut two because Herm thought since he was getting a QB and a kicker, he'd need the spots.

****ing moron.

He was playing against a prevent defense. A RAIDERS prevent defense.

But thanks for the clip.

Let's be fair.

I hate Herman ****ing Edwards as the HC of my Chiefs, but he cut two so he could bring in a healthy body at WR.

Not true at all. Remember the Auburn game when Rex got hurt? Remember the Miami game he played well in, and then Leak went in and blew it? All UF fans remember is the UT game when he under threw a few passes. Everyone wanted him on the bench because they subscribed to the Leak hype out of high school. They never gave him a chance once Zook and Leak came in. Funny thing is, he would have been perfect for Meyer's offense.

I remember watching dIngle Martin consistently one-hop it to WRs in the swamp. In the Miami game we were ahead because of kickass rushing by DeShawn Wynn (8 carries, 100 yards, 1TD) and Ran Carthon (15 carries, 67yds, 1TD) and a defensive TD from Keiwan Ratliff. We lost because the defense blew it.

So I've heard this guy is accurate but doesn't have much of an arm. I've also read that he threw the ball harder than any other QB in the combine.. can anyone give a complete breakdown of this guy?

I remember when he was at UF. He was basically the way you described him while he was there. I can't believe that he even made it to an NFL roster.
