I have a bit of a problem. I have no electricity in the master bedroom except for the fan and light in the fan in the master bathroom. the rest of the house is fine except for one bathroom on the first floor that is adjacent to the master bathroom.

So I went around the house and reset all of the GFI outlets. one GFI in another bathroom had a hair dryer plugged into it, and when I unplugged it the plug was hot to the touch. that GFI is no longer working even after I reset it. and yes I reset the breakers in the house and nothing.

My question is, could a bad GFI cause this shutdown of power in one area?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Sounds like a blown fuse.

Yep. Bad GFI or possibly a bad breaker.

Sounds logical to me. It's probably worth the $12 to find out (if you're comfortable replacing the GFI) before calling in the Pros.

I was outside working, I have 4 ****ing days to get my house painted. And yes, that GFI is probably bad.

Would the builder have really made a circuit controlling both upstairs and downstairs?

The short answer would be yes.

The short answer would be yes.

Interesting. I've only ever looked in my breaker box once. For some reason, it's outside.
