Edit: PFR factored in Detroit and St. Louis' bye weeks.

I stand corrected from the almighty OnTheWarpath58. We're 30th in total defense; not 32nd.

I apologize. We're, in fact, much, much better than I was led to believe. We're 29th/30th in offense (yards/points) and 30th/30th in defense.

Hum? I thought Herm was a Defensive Guru?

Hum? But DV this and DV that..... It must be Al Jesus Saunders fault?

Gunther will feel Herms tires this offseason...

That, my friends, is unbelievable. Okay. Let's see here. When Herm arrived, he was going to fix the defense. He drafted safeties and a DE in his first draft and Dlinemen in his second draft. He's brought in over 20 linebackers at various times, installed the C2, worked closely with Gunther, and run an overall gameplan that is defense-oriented.

And, we're last in total defense. Those are results that will get you to the show, for sure.

Last I checked, there were 32 teams in the NFL.

Not that 30th is much better, but currently the Rams and Lions are ranked 31 and 32 - and are giving up 10 PPG more.

KC is 30th in yards allowed, and 27th in points allowed.

Ironically our offense is better (thru four games) this year than we were last year.

For the last time...we're 30th in total defense allowing 391.6 yards per game.

St Louis is allowing 411.8 and Detroit is allowing 429 per game.

I may be wrong, but I have a hard time really laying much blame at Gun's feet. He's not running his defense - he's running C2.

I'd probably defer to the NFL for their official stats.

Gunther is the genious who thought moving Hali to RE would pan out.

And they're running a lot more man coverage these days, with plenty of blitzing.

Fine, Pro Football Reference appears to be wrong. I admit it.

I'll go back to believing that Herm Edwards has turned this defense around and that we're on the right track. 30th in points and yards. Awesome.

Our defense is just retaining water...we'll lose it all in one big dump and suddenly be top 10!

How can this be? Claythan told me Gun fixed the defense back in August??

To me, the difference between 30th and 32nd is kind of nitpicky. Either way, the suck is real.

The astonishing thing about all this is that Herm is A) Supposed to be good at fielding defenses and B) Supposed to be good at drafting.

I guess Chiefs fans now know where Herm's skills really lie. The term "bullshit artist" comes to mind.

Maybe it's time to ask if the "youth movement" remains a valid excuse for this situation.

Makes you wonder if the youth is unable to retain the lack of coaching...

No, absolutely not.

I expected us to take a step back on defense.

But a giant fucking leap backwards to the WORST DEFENSE IN THE NFL?

If it was going to come to this we should have just squeezed three more years out of Vermeil.

I believe strogly in the youth movement, and I believe that we've drafted some very talented players that could be the core of a very good team, in time.

What I don't believe is that we have a staff that is capable of devloping this talent.

Ryan Sims is not playing at the level of his draft status, but he is playing a hell of a lot better in Tampa in his second year for Monte Kiffen and his staff than he ever did for the Chiefs.
