VIX hit an all-time high. Extreme volatility. Shorts are covering right now so they don't get hit over the weekend due to government/fed decisions.

What a roller coaster.

I think a lot of people are smartly seeing this as a buying opportunity. A lot of those automatic buy orders are getting activated when prices drop to a certain level too.

People smartly got their money onto the sidelines before the government stepped in to screw things up, and now are scooping up bargains... looking like the cat who swallowed the canary for the time being.

I'd bet that being rich, even 10-20% less rich than you were two weeks ago, is still better than always having been a have-not

Well... at least it didn't close down 700, and the fact that it was positive at all is a good sign.

Umm... You love it? I'm guessing you have zero investments, no 401k and nothing in the bond or money markets? Or money in a bank? Certainly the ultra-rich are being hit the hardest, but don't think for a second that it doesn't affect every single one of us.

I got 27 bucks in cash, a beater car and I owe my bank way more in crappy loans than I have in my checking account. So I'm not to worried... but to be serious, I hate for bad things to happen to other people... Like the layoff thread that was posted earlier by Redrum_69

I find that having very little to lose actually makes life very enjoyable and much less stressful. Have not, lose not.

I do get depress when I can't scrape up the extra 6 bucks for the 30 pack o'Stones and have to settle for the natty, but 4 beers later I could swear they taste the same. "All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine. ... It's a way of looking at that wave and saying, "Hey bud, let's party!" ..."

Having nothing is certainly one way to go, but while you don't have as far to fall, you certainly don't have a lot of cushioning, either.

Have you ever had "a lot to lose"? Not bashing, just curious... it's one thing to look at today's economy or watch the news and be glad you don't have that much stress because you don't have much to lose. It's a completely different thing to have actually experienced both sides (not that I have one way or the other).

Despite the overwhelming number of morons who got themselves into trouble during the housing boom, and who are stressing over the economy, I'd venture to say there are more people who are well off and have little to worry about... people who actually keep track of how much money is going in and out every month, and people who actually end up saving some every month.

Yeah, money doesn't buy happiness, but it helps.

Gee I hope you feel good about yourself... I was perfectly happy with my station in life, until you so eloquently pointed out that I must be inferior to you because I choose not to chase dollar signs. Maybe I should apply at AIG, a government funded trip to the spa sounds nice. :(

If you've got money you must have lucked into it or earned it playing sports or something, because you write at a second grade level. You sure as shit didn't earn your money with your brains.

A lot of people who panicked Friday are probably depressed now. If you dont need the money for the next 15+ years, just let it ride. If your not in now, stocks are still on sale. I actually increased my 401k paycheck contribution last Friday, but it looks like I acted a bit too late.
