KING CARL GETS CALLED OUT FOR NOT TRADING GONZALEZ
Posted by Mike Florio on October 15, 2008, 4:22 p.m.

In the aftermath of the Chiefs’ failure to trade tight end Tony Gonzalez, some league insiders place the blame squarely on G.M. Carl Peterson.

“Carl Peterson is a moron,” one source opined in the wake of news that Peterson led Gonzalez to believe that a deal would be done, and that Peterson then insisted on a second-round pick, rejecting one or more offers of a third-round selection.

“He should have found a way to get the deal done,” the source said. “The player is going to cost them $4 million next year. They don’t want that.”

One possibility — as pointed out in our Wednesday item for SportingNews.com — would have been to use a Favre-style formula that would have relied on the performance of the team and/or Gonzalez to determine the specific value of the pick. Under that scenario, Peterson might have even finagled a conditional first-round pick. Really, who wouldn’t be thrilled in hindsight to lose the last pick in round one if it means winning the Super Bowl?

So now Peterson has an unhappy player whom he’ll end up trading at some point after the season. And the perception that Gonzalez was misled will potentially poison the locker room against management.

Keep playing hard Tony and calling CeePee out! Hopefully when Clark learns the best player on his team is sick of getting screwed over and will probably be leaving after this season, he'll cut the head off this lying serpent of a GM.

No doubt that's fairly chickenshit.

Yeah. That's what's going to tip them off.

Well, we don't have to worry about Carl coming down to the field during a win this year. That should keep em separated.

I don't think being separated is what's going to keep Carl from coming to the field for a win......

I do not look forward to TG-less KC football, but if the last big play Tony ever makes as a Chief is a political one that shows Hunt the true nature of his GM, he will belong in a whole new Ring of Honor that has only his name over and over and over all around the stadium.

Peter King and Randy Cross lit Carl up this morning on Sirius for not trading Tony (two of the Chiefs biggest champions, btw :D ).
