I have been around this place long enough, in one way or the other, to vaguely remember his av.

Could someone please tell those of us who were never fortunate to know him, who he is, and how he gained such fame.

Yeah, that's kind of the point. There are a lot of nOObs around here, who might actually think the Gaz option is humorous if we actually knew something about him.

Very intelligent, and insightful post by the way. Hopefully when I shed my nOObness, I will be a contributor to inquisitive threads such as yourself.

Ask yourself why there is a Gaz option on Polls around the Planet.

Therein you will find your answer.

Seriously, his fame rests in the Planet deciding what movie his wife and he should

see over the weekend via polling.

Gotcha. Thanks, but is that all? There seems to be more to it than that.

Was it really just the POLL deciding what tie to wear?

Those Friday threads were quite funny.

The Gaz option came to be what it is today because in the past whenever Gaz started a poll he'd put "bite me" or something similar as one of the options.

Example:

I could tell you more, but then I would have to kill you.

I remember GAZ just enough to know he got tired of the way people treated one another in the forum.

It was a double edged sword. He didn't care for how the old timers/Vets of the Planet piled on and reduced n00bs to listless piles of crap by berating them. He didn't care for the way n00bs were posting by the hundreds and talking trash and declining the amount of good football conversation with their n00b like banter.

One led to the other and his eventual departure.

That is how I took his leaving here.

I liked GAZ cause he always shot straight from the hip and there was NO grey area in his thinking.

He was a great loss to the planet IMO.

From the FAQ:

How can I adjust the profanity filter?
By default, all users are configured to use a small set of profanity filters. However, we recognize that different people have different preferences for how profanity is handled on the forum. As such, you have the following options to control the forum's profanity filters:

* If you would rather not use the default filter list, change your default style to "Full Featured (unfiltered)" in your User CP under "Edit Options."
* If you would like to add additional words to the forum's word censor list, you can do so in your User CP under "Edit Options" as well. Look for "Self Censor Posts" toward the bottom of the list. Words you enter into the box will be replaced by asterisks in the forum.

Scorn of Jason Ernzen on the old Star BB.
I wish there were archives of all the old posts there. The thread where Ernzen was looking for work and Gaz suggested he let people pay to beat him up was a classic.

I think Gaz referenced some unemployed dude in Japan that stood on a street corner and let people smack him in the face for about $20, and recommended Ernzen try it.

I almost peed my pants reading that one.

I woo women with my sensuous and godlike trombone playing, I can pilot bicycles up severe inclines with unflagging speed, and I cook Thirty-Minute Brownies in twenty minutes. I am an expert in stucco, a veteran in love, and an outlaw in Peru.

Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, I once single-handedly defended a small village in the Amazon Basin from a horde of ferocious army ants. I play bluegrass cello, I was scouted by the Mets, I am the subject of numerous documentaries. When I'm bored, I build large suspension bridges in my yard. I enjoy urban hang gliding. On Wednesdays, after school, I repair electrical appliances free of charge.

I am an abstract artist, a concrete analyst, and a ruthless bookie. Critics worldwide swoon over my original line of corduroy evening wear. I don't perspire. I am a private citizen, yet I receive fan mail. I have been caller number nine and have won the weekend passes. Last summer, I toured New Jersey with a traveling centrifugal-force demonstration. I bat .400. My deft floral arrangements have earned me fame in international botany circles. Children trust me.

I can hurl tennis rackets at small moving objects with deadly accuracy. I once read Paradise Lost, Moby Dick, and David Copperfield in one day and still had time to refurbish an entire dining room that evening. I know the exact location of every food item in the supermarket. I have performed several covert operations for the CIA. I sleep once a week; when I do sleep, I sleep in a chair. While on vacation in Canada, I successfully negotiated with a group of terrorists who had seized a small bakery. The laws of physics do not apply to me.

I balance, I weave, I dodge, I frolic, and my bills are all paid. On weekends, to let off steam, I participate in full-contact origami. Years ago, I discovered the meaning of life but forgot to write it down. I have made extraordinary four course meals using only a mouli and a toaster oven. I breed prizewinning clams. I have won bullfights in San Juan, cliff-diving competitions in Sri Lanka, and spelling bees at the Kremlin. I have played Hamlet, I have performed open-heart surgery, and I have spoken with Elvis.

But I have not yet gone to college.
