Damn, that didn't take long....

There were rumors he may be replaced in the next week or two.

No wait for next week; Niners can Nolan now

FOXSports' Jay Glazer reports that the 49ers have decided not to wait for their Week 9 bye to fire Mike Nolan. Nolan is out as head coach effective immediately.
The Niners let the news leak out a week before they planned to take action, which would have made the entire week and next Sunday's game against Seattle a circus. Assistant head coach/linebackers Mike Singletary has agreed to step in. Nolan took over in '05 with the organization in shambles. He is a good football coach, but didn't get results after a promising 7-9 2006 campaign. His record ended up at 18-37 in four seasons. Nolan is certain to find work in 2009, probably as a defensive coordinator. Oct. 20 - 7:54 pm et

Unfortunately Nolan is not what we need. We need a former OC for sure.

Nolan is a 3-4 guy so we really have no personnel at all for him to at anyway be an option for anything.

Three head coaches and one GM fired so far this season. Has that ever happened before? I can't remember ever seeing more than one or two midseason firings. Personally, I am hoping to see a fourth this season, and sooner rather than later.

Well he may suck, but he looks nice when he does it. Have you seen those snappy suits he wears on the sideline. If we are going to lose, might as well bring him in. At least we'd lose and look classy.

We need a competent HC, I don't give a shit what philosophy he has. I just want someone who can coach these guys to their max potential.

Exactly.

This team is $3it. It really doesn't matter what type of philosophy the next HC/GM have. They're starting from scratch...

Nolan sucks as a DC too.

I dunno about that he was the Ravens DC when they were pretty good..

If you play 3-4 you basically make Dorsey a useless player who has no purpose.

It's pretty easy to coordinate a defense with Ray Lewis, Chris McAllister, and a huge space eater in the middle.

Nolan is a lot like Herm. He tried to fit round pegs in square holes for 4 years in SF.

Nolan was a receivers coach prior to becoming a DC.

Marvin Lewis was who I was thinking of.

I actually think we have a few very good pieces in place to switch to a 4-3, a 3-4 means we've wasted $50,000,000 on Glenn Dorsey. LMAO

Anyway, I'm with you on being stupid to switch to a 3-4.

Eh I like some of San Frans players, I mean they did draft Patrick Willis who's basically a superstar.

I'd love to have him, maybe Nick Athan can work up a story about us needing to go after him in the off-season.

I think they have very good players, but he was trying to play a 3-4 defense without a space eating DT, and very weak rush backers.

Why not put Willis in the 4-3? Willis is easily the best linebacker in the NFL. They have Nate Clements as well.

By using a 4-3, you are masking the deficiency of Franklin, Sopoagua and Balmer.

He never really played to their strength.

Maybe we can hire the Billick/Fassel/Nolan triad of power!

Manny Lawson blowing out his knee really hurt them he was suppose to be their big time rush backer.
