Bruce Rice, who I'm pretty sure was the Chiefs first play-by-play announcer on its radio network, died 30 years ago today of I believe congestive heart failure. He worked right until the end, calling the Chiefs loss to the Steelers two days before he died.

Bruce was also the sports director on Ch. 5 at the time. After his death, Jack Harry, who was the weekend sports anchor, was promoted to sports director.

Damn. I was having a good day, up until then.

I had no idea this person existed, nor did I know this was a sad day.

Now, I feel completely terrible in honor of this person I never knew.

Same here. I guess I'm too young. The only Chiefs Voices I know are Kevin Harlan and Mitch Holthus.
