I was thinking of checking the Blind Tiger to see if they will have the game. They have great beer there. Other than that, I am not sure as I am not really a bar person.

According to the KU website the game is on FSN pay per view. Good luck with that.

I spent the first 15 years of my life in that state. When I left for KC, they had just built a movie theater that showed "Talkies"!
Yep; I'd help the neighbor wind up that newfangled "Horseless Carriage", and we were off and running!

At 15 miles and hour no less!

Lol. I would drink their micro brews. I guess at about $3-4 a pint, it would still be less than PPV. And good beer, to boot.

It should be chilly. Bring in a flask and try to stuff a couple bottle of beers in your pants. Order a beer and some wings. go to the bathroom a couple times to get the beers out. Drink the flask some where in between. Eat the chicken wings go to the bathroom to get the other beer. Pull out pupes stick in the extra ranch you ordered before you went to the bathroom enjoy rest of whats in the flask. Demand that the wings be free. Go to the bathroom drink rest of flask. Piss all over the bathroom and leave. total cost 6 bucks

Skinny's is one of my favorites.

If it was a night i'd say stay away from all Topeka bars except perhaps Blind Tiger.

If you want a more family environment Old Chicago would have the game on, maybe. You could call them and find out.

tbh, Bowl eligible means very little these days. 12 games, 4 of which you can schedule cream puffs, and you can count FCS wins for bowl eligibility now. Couple that with being 30+ bowls, yeah, who cares?

It's a program that's never appeared in back-to-back bowl games, and has an all-time winning record versus two of the Big 12 teams... I was hoping for 8 wins, so 6 or maybe 7 wins and going to consecutive bowl games isn't a huge disappointment, even though I was hoping to keep pace with Mizzou.

Yep... I would have been thrilled with 8 wins, so it's not like 6 is greatly disappointing, and 7 isn't out of the realm of possibility.

The Orange Bowl gave Mangino and company a free pass for a few years (outside of doing something stupid like going 2-10), and the NC took all the pressure off the basketball squad. I guess some people don't get that because they're too busy stroking their own program, but it's a great feeling (but, I guess stroking is, too).

I even had a Mizzou fan tell me a couple of weeks ago that they would like Kansas to win the North so they didn't have to watch the Tigers get embarrassed on national TV.

Any given Saturday... I'd rather take my chances than not be playing. However, it would suck for the Big 12 if the south champion didn't win.

Patient fans are hard to find... once you're good you're expected to keep moving forward and get better and better, and if you've always been good you can never take a step back.

I was doing a ChiefsPlanet search the other day and stumbled upon an argument I had with Dane, Laz, and a couple of other Jayhawk fans right after they lost to Bradley a few years ago. They were saying how Self had no right to be coaching a program like Kansas, and I was trying to defend Self despite the back-to-back 'B' losses.

I'm not saying I was right just because Self ended up winning a NC or that they were necessarily wrong for thinking Self couldn't get it done, since I was once skeptical of him, too.... but at the same time, it was mind-boggling that people couldn't see that the Jayhawks were in the middle of a HUGE transition and that it wasn't going to happen overnight.

It's a hard climb to the top for any team, and it's hard to stay there regardless of past success.

This game was definitely a statement game for Nebraska. When Mangino ran up the score last year I knew that Nebraska was going to circle this game on there schedule. I briefly remember getting a lot of shit for even suggesting that Nebraska had a chance since Kansas hung 76 on them last year. Lincoln is always a tough place to play. I don't think Nebraska has more talent but they definitely had a lot more desire to win this game today.

This conversation from last November is really fun to look back on now:
KU will lose next year @USF. USF is a better team than every team you beat this year. Tech returns Crabtree and Harrell who will beat you by themselves I don't care where the game is you don't want to try to have a shootout with them. OU Tex and Mizzou finish off the 5 loss season. Also you play at Nebraska next year so there is another tossup IMO just depending on which Nebraska team shows up next season.

I heard those same predictions regarding games heading into this season. How did those work out for you?

Your predictions are all ludicrous, considering KU is better than Tech and Texas this year, we return a huge portion of our starting lineups on O and D, and the games are in Lawrence, but the Nebraska one is where you really shine. KU hangs 76 on a team that's going into its first year under a new coaching staff, and it's a friggin' toss up? Who the hell do you think they're going to get to replace Callahan? Vince Lombardi?

Awesome. You can believe what you want. When KU wins somewhere in the area of 9 games again next season, however, it won't be surprising in the least.

Fantastic post. I would love to see that old thread.

As for the KU football team I am a little disappointed this year. I guess my expectations were a bit too high. Oh well, if we end up with only 6 or 7 wins this year and make a bowl, I will still be happy. Obviously, the defense still needs some work. As for anyone who talks about last year being a fluke, well they just prove how retarded they are. Yes, the easier schedule had something to do with it. But anyone with at least half a brain would know that easier schedules never helped KU win @ A&M, @ KSU, @ CU, @ OSU, and @ the Orange Bowl over the #3 team in the country in past years. People don't want to acknowledge that there are sometimes magical years that everything just falls together for a team. That team probably would not have won 12 games with this year's schedule. But for anyone who would suggest that they were no better than this year's or any other of Mangino's squads, well.....they are just plain ignorant.

Yeah, some people don't get that.... it's not that Penn State is complete garbage this year, it's that they suck when compared to the top 10 teams in the country and don't deserve to be thought of as a NC contender.

It's the same for Kansas last year. It's hard to win all of your games, and Kansas came within a possession of doing so. It was just a couple of years ago when they were beating La-Tech 20-19 and last year we won our non-conference games by an average of like 50 points per game. Does it mean they were good enough to play for a NC? Of course not, but they still deserved the press and a good bowl game (ahem, not having that argument again).

The Bradley argument...

Bill Self is Marty Schottenheimer. Great regular season, horrible post season. He should be fired if he loses this game.

Give me a f***ing break, people. This is a team of freshman & sophomores that weren't supposed to be here... and they sure as hell weren't supposed to play for the Big 12 conference crown or beat Texas in the tournament.

I hate KU fans sometimes.

and we hate you all the time ... so there

what ... we aren't supposed to unhappy DURING a game we look like crap in??????

we're blowing off steam

During a game we didn't think we would be in a few months ago. Veteran teams that are supposed to be here are having problems putting teams away.... why blow a gasket when this KU team puts in a crappy 40 minutes in the big dance? Could we really expect more? They're down by 9 with 11 to go... crap or not, they aren't out of it.

You give me a f******* break. KU losing in the first round 2 years in a row to teams seeded 8 or more spots below them? Who gives a crap about the age of the players? I guess Syracuse shouldn't have won the tourney because Carmelo was only 19?

This coach does not belong at Kansas. Period. He was a bad choice from the start.

For the record, I'm more than a fan. I went to KU, paid tuition, etc. I'm entitled to my opinion, especially when I donate to the school on a yearly basis.

You can't compare the two teams... one had a group of seniors that didn't buy into the system.. they were set up to failed.

This one is a bunch of stupid young kids.

Syracuse is totally different, too... they implemented a system that no one plays against and had Carmelo Anthony.

I don't love Bill Self, and I have yet to fall in love with the system, but you have to give him more than one year with Roy's boys and one year with his young stupid players.

Sorry, I disagree. He's taken young, athletic players that are built for the fast break offense that's worked so well at UNC and Kansas and tried to slow it down. Tough defense, tough defenders, blah, blah, blah. I hate it. And I think most KU fans agree.

Matt Doherty would have been a better choice. Larry Brown would have won a Championship already. Self needs to go. No excuses.

This is KU we're talking about. Not the Chiefs, not MU, not KSU, not OU or OSU. KU. The Final Four is the only expectation.

Oh, I remember Self saying he wouldn't slow us down, and "the Big 12 is about running, so that's what we're going to do", and I was bitter last year because he obviously lied.

But, these kids listened this year, they had one of the best defenses in the NCAA, and did what a lot of people didn't think was possible.

I love fast basketball, which is why I didn't mind seeing UNC win it all last year.... and it is still frustrating to see the offense at times compared to a couple of years ago.... but I'm still giving him another year before calling it a waste.

I'll put it this way.... a lot of KU fans have probably said "You think you can win with defense? Prove it."... well, he can't just turn Roy's program around overnight and prove it.
***

And just so I'm not tooting my own horn...

Wow.

Nice job, Bradley. The Baby Jays weren't quite ready for "Primetime"....and "The Dance."

You guys represented the MVC well. Kudos, Braves.

Here's to a GREAT Big 12 and K-U season, once the youngsters have grown....in 2006 and 2007.

Fear not KU fans.

this one is differen than last year, we are a young team.

at least everyone will be back for sure, and next year we make our run

Ummm.

That sure sucked A**.

Well, it was supposed to be a rebuilding year. No one thought we'd make the tourney in early December. We share the regular season and win the tourney and go down in the first round like Iowa and Syracuse. I would've been happy with the second round, so I'm less than enthused with this result, but Sedated is right. We'll be a top-5 team preseason next year.

In the long run it may be better, because it guarantees Rush and Wright will stay for next year, when we will have the experience to take the whole thing.

That being said, this is the worst 2-year tourney run I can remember for a major conference school since Arizona 92-93'. In 92, they lost to the #15 seed Santa Clara, and then in 93 they lost to the #14 seed UT- Chattanooga. The next year they went to the Final Four. and three years later they won it all. I'd settle for that.
****

Okay, maybe a little tooting... :)

Pittsburgh lost in the first round last year, and the sweet sixteen two years in a row before that, just so all of you anti-Jayhawk fans have more ammo before giving into the idea that Bradley has something to do with this...

You're kidding, right?

Of course not.. why should random MU/KSU/general-KU-hating fan give into the fact that Bradley might be good, after two days of talking about how Kansas choked? Who cares if Pittsburgh played in much better conference than Kansas, and probably deserved a higher seed than Kansas.... they're chokers, too! They haven't given into how Bucknell is a #9 seed a year after they beat KU and won another tournament game this year... why give into rational thought now? Why???

tbh, Bowl eligible means very little these days. 12 games, 4 of which you can schedule cream puffs, and you can count FCS wins for bowl eligibility now. Couple that with being 30+ bowls, yeah, who cares?

Of course I expect you knew all of that already.

I thought there were only about 25 bowls. Doesn't matter anyway. While it may not matter in the grand scheme of things in your mind, it does matter in one huge way. Teams that are bowl eligible get another month to month and a half to practice and develop players. That is a big advantage. Plus, you have to know that it helps in recruiting.
