I always wondered how a Klingon Bird of Prey- invisible but solid nonetheless- could sit in the middle of a park in San Francisco for, what, a week maybe, without multiple ex hippies and others walking into it and conking their brains out.

He doesn't have to start from scratch with the characters, so that definitely helps Abrams.

I say this because I couldn't wait for EVERYONE in 'Cloverfield' to die. It was like, "come on monster, get your ass to work boy; we still got people breathing"!

Well then God Bless Him for killing those douchey sacks of shit ASAP! Yay! More Monster; less douche!

The hot Hindu chick got to live, and that's okay with me. Lizzy Caplan couldn't die fast enough; sadly her career lives on... I just don't buy that chick doing anything. Seen 'True Blood'? Nice boobs; everything else cries "Hungry Monster To Stage Two Please"...sadness.

I watched a little Star Trek when I was a kid...the reruns of the old shows. I never got into any of the newer stuff. I think the last Star Trek movie I saw was the one with the whales.
So I don't have the nerd-like background to know the backstory of all this stuff. I find myself in the same situation I do with comic book movies, which I love, but typically don't get all the inside jokes/references.
But I will say that I' excited about this movie for some reason. I don't know why, but it just seems like something I will really enjoy.

There's a prequel comic series leading into the movie (Star Trek Countdown) that I haven't read them yet, although I know the general story behind them, and apparently continuity is something they're concerned with. The comic is both a sequel to Star Trek: Nemesis (which I have not seen) and a prequel to the new Star Trek
