one sitcom, what would it be?

One of my favorite sayings is Cutie Patootie Ramsey...and every time I mourn for the days of the Facts of Life...

Anyone else have a show they mourn?

Nah, Wonder years ended right. You lost the aspect of the innocence of the boy when the boy grew up.

no way. Winnie and the boy should have lived happily ever after.:harumph:

but if we are talking about past sitcoms to bring back and start anew in 2009 then Seinfeld would have to be up there. That humor would translate today.

Seinfeld could use a better finale. The one they had was pretty lame after all the buildup.

I'll add:

Arrested Development

Agreed. Almost as screwed up as ALF's.

I will say I thought they did Home Improvements right and Fresh Prince's was okay.

I can kind of see where you could enjoy the show, but please tell me you saw the flaws.

If you didn't I would suggest you seek out the TwoP and AVClub archives about the show. Because I'm serious when I say I got more enjoyment reading and contributing to post-show snark than actually watching just about any other show. It was just such a rich target.

It really was a hot tranny mess, but it's two biggest failings were; 1) treating a TV show set like it was the West Wing, with all the florid musings and navel gazing [especially when countered by the off-the-wall chaos of 30 Rock that started at the same time], and 2) treating the male/female leads as the vehicles to exorcise all the drama Sorkin experienced with Olive Snook.

It isn't a sitcom, so I'm breaking my own rules, but anyone remember that show, Once and Again? I loved that show, but I think it was on for maybe two seasons.

One I would add from this year that I'm pretty sure isn't returning is Carpoolers. That show was hilarious

Jerry O'Connell has already run through another failed sitcom since Carpoolers was history [Do Not Disturb, 2 episodes].

I missed the wink. My bad.
I saw the flaws in the show. I felt like, if Sorkin was just going to try and recreate West Wing...why didn't he just go back to West Wing. However, I enjoyed the actors, and some of the drama was really starting to pull me in (DL Hugley and the young black writer, the baby, etc) It had some potential...but you are right, it took itself far too seriously.
It's funny because it started the same season as 30 Rock, and had I been given the choice, I'd have guessed a Sorkin show would succeed far ahead of a sitcom about the same thing. Man, was I wrong.

Back int he day (for whatever reason) I was in love with that helicopter pilot character.

Plus I loved how they always alluded to Antonio's girlfriend, the "Girl with the big face." I still use that in everyday life.

Nothing listed from the 70's. I'll take either Taxi or Mary Tyler Moore. However, they would have to bring back Ted Knight and maybe Andy Kaufman. From the 80's I'll go for Moonlighting and Newhart, Bob's second sitcom. Unfortunately Mary Frann died way too young.

ROFL

It's called Who's on First, Dad!! Perhaps the pinnacle of pronoun/proper name confusion, timing-based, comedy. It provided a brief respite, in the sacred name of absurdity, from the pressures of McCarthyism for millions of wonderful Americans. But you were to busy running a John Deere combine, like the rest of middle America, to get to know this wonderful comedy bit. And that's why you and me can't relate, DAD!!

Like I said, endless fun.

I rented the 1st season box set of that. Yes, its dated, but it actually still holds up fairly well. The writing was pretty decent and witty.

Oh, my fave sitcome of all time is still Family Ties. I loved the goofy humor and Michael J Fox's comedic timing was nails.

Threes Compony would be 2nd. John Ritter was a master of stupidity.

I also liked Good Times waaaay back in the day. Especially the first few years with JJ and the dad John Amos. Their chemistry was together was magic.
