These are the top 5 teams as of right now. What similarities do you see with these teams? What common traits do they have that make them successful?

Physical defenses and running games, excepting the Colts, even though Indy has started to get a running game the past few weeks.

Consistency in coaching:

Panthers 2002-
Giants 2001-
Colts 2002-
Tennessee 1994-
Steelers 2007- (well they did have Cowher along time)

Oh, and it pains me in saying so.

FWIW, Dungy is a highly overrated gameday coach. If Manning wasn't such a strong personality, they'd never have won a Super Bowl. Even Warren Sapp, while saying Dungy was his favorite coach and that he loved him, said Dungy would have never won a SB in Tampa.

Well for one they all have playmakers on defense:

Titans- Albert Haynesworth, Cortland Finnegan, Kyle Vanden Bosch, perhaps several others
Panthers- Julius Peppers
Giants- Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora (not this year of course)
Steelers- James Harrison, Troy Polamalu, Lamarr Woodley
Colts- Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis, Bob Sanders

3 of those 5 have top 5 rushing attacks. Pittsburgh usually has a top attack and I believe they will next year when Parker is hopefully fully healthy and Rashard Mendenhall comes back. Colts have been plagued by injury at RB and I believe they will be in the top half again next season.

All except for the Titans have a top quarterback, or at least a competent one in the case of the Panthers.

All have a solid or even great offensive line, except for maybe Pittsburgh.

It's hard to point to what single factor makes these teams great. They have playmakers all around, simple as that. We don't.

Coaching seems to be the common thread so far and I can't disagree.

But as performance on the field goes, they all excell in points allowed. In fact, all five are in the top ten for least points allowed. The Lions, Rams & Chiefs are the bottom three teams. We're at 386 while the Steelers are at 192. :shake:

4 out of the 5 have great defenses and can cause TO's
4 out of the 5 have good running games
They all have had coaching consistency
Colts will always be tops of the league as long as Peyton Manning is around.

Well todays game sucked for the Titans, I feel Jeff Fisher could have made a better choice in the end of the game and went for the field goal. I personally thought that was a very bad choice I think we may have won it otherwise.

they have players who tackle the quarterback.

They don't turn the ball over, commit penalties. They run the ball consistently and play defense. They make the other team respect you when you grind the clock out in the 4th quarter. They surround their organization with character guys who are committed to the team.

4 have been to a Superbowl in the past decade, and the one who hasn't does have a QB who did.
