Is this theme park worth the road trip?

Thinking of taking my oldest on a amusement park tour this summer with Cedar Point being the furthest and last stop before heading back.

Figure on Worlds of fun and Six Flags as bookends.

Might look into Kings Island as well.

If you love roller coasters, there is no better place in this country.

uhm, that's in Ohio, not Iowa. You might want to know that when looking on the map.

I was pleasantly surprised when I went last summer. Some of the best roller coasters I've ever been on, and the park is clean and well-managed. Sometimes you get some real shit pits when you go to certain Six Flags parks.

Why waste your valuable vacation dollars driving to Ohio, where they won't appreciate it.

I'll set you up with a tourist agenda of the great state of Iowania. You'll get 2-3 stops for the gas money to get to Ohio.

Center Point is a nice little town in Iowa but I don't recall the amusement park, unless it is all those Lisbon High school girls out helling on the weekend.

Give me a break guys. I know it is in Ohio. It was an honest mistake from somebody that works LATE at night.

How about a little more input on the parks I mentioned now.

Do Cedar Point. It's like doing the Yankee Stadium of roller coasters.

I'd never take my kid to a Six Flags park again and I wouldn't recommend Kings Island.

I'm not much in to thrill rides, honestly. To me there is no better amusement park than Disney World in Orlando, FL.

King's Island is adding a 230' coaster next year that will kick major ass.

If you're driving you can hit Holiday World (one of the best family parks around and has by far the best wood coaster I've ever ridden). http://www.holidayworld.com/

Six Flags St. Louis has actually improved drastically over the last two years. It used to be a dumpster. And they added a decent wood coaster last year.

Worlds of Fun is building a nice looking wood coaster back in the woods for next year.

Cedar Point is the place to go when looking for coasters though. If that's the only place you can squeeze in then make it the priority.

I was giving Holiday World some thought but don't think I will have time for it if I try to hit Six Flags, Kings Island and Cedar Point. Since I have to plan for driving on alternate days will make it a bitch too.

Can Cedar Point be covered in one day or is it better to plan for two on that one?

Cedar Point is awesome. The wife and I took the drive out there two summers in a row in '02 and '03 (or '03 and '04... I dunno, something like that). "Millennium Force" is the best coaster I've been on, and you MUST sit in front. I didn't ride "Top Thrill Dragster" (eye surgery issues) but the wife did and loved it. They have a stand-up coaster, a suspended coaster, an inverted coaster, a fast wooden killer coaster, a small old wooden coaster... just about anything you could ask for. (You can skip "Magmum XL-200", though, IMO; it's old and beat-up and gives you a rough ride.) And, if you can, splurge and stay on property; we stayed at the Hotel Breakers, and it was well worth it. I don't think you need a full week there, though; three nights, maybe four nights, is plenty.

Come east to New Jersey then, to Six Flags, and visit Kingda-Ka: even taller, with a 100-foot "bunny hop" at the end. ;)

Having a blast. Top thrill dragster was down today because of the rain but thankfully Millennium force opened up for the first time in the last 4 days. Made Mamba look like a fishing worm. 315 feet straight down. DAMN!!!

They have a stand up roller coaster here as well called Mantis. If you don't mind being in the standing position for all the G's on that ride you will love it.

Well, we made a visit to Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun last Monday. Needless to say, Cedar Point has completely ruined Worlds of Fun for me and my oldest son. We rode the Prowler (disappointing to say the least), Patriot and Mamba and decided to leave for Oceans within 40 minutes. It will never be the same now. ROFL

I'll have to plan another trip back to Cedar Point as soon as my second oldest (8) is completely comfortable with roller coasters.

Yeah, worlds of fun is really lame compared to other good amusement parks. The roller coasters aren't dynamic enough and dont offer any thrills after a while. This park is pretty much great for kids under 13.

When in Kings Island, be sure to check out the Beast, and the Vortex. In my opinion you should have gone to Kings Island before Cedar Point though, because now that you have ridden Millenium Force, everything else will suffer by comparison. I haven't gone to Kings Island in a few years though, so I haven't gotten to try out the Diamondback yet.

I went a few years back with a few friend.. My experience: more than half of the rides were shut down due to maintenance. If you do end up going, call ahead of time to see if the rides are working. We didn't get to ride any of the better rides at the park. Also, stay away from the weekend! Lines can get rediculously long!!

Best coaster I've ever been on: Millennium Force, hands-down. It's like riding a rocket. (Second-best: the Superman coaster at Six Flags New England. Amazing airtime on that ride, and it's constantly ranked high on coaster enthusiast lists.)

Cedar Point is like a coaster smorgasboard (sp?). You've got old wood, new wood, inverted, suspended, stand-up, 200 feet, 300 feet, 400 feet, WTF... Something for everyone.

Cedar point is terrific. Kings island near Cincy is a distant second, but it's still a solid park.

If all you want is an amusement park. Sandusky is nothing to write home about. You're pretty close to Cleveland but there's nothing to do there. I'd take an extra half hour and drive to Columbus instead. Or if you wanted to make a weekend of it, check out put in bay (as long as you're in season). It's like a redneck Mardi gras there.

While visiting Six Flags Over Georgia, Muff Boudain was once stranded atop a malfunctioning roller coaster for approximately 6 hours. During that time and due to his prior rapid consumption of several beers, he found himself experiencing an horrific and urgent need to empty his bladder. After some consideration of the alternatives available to him, he chose to aim for a vacant area directly behind the "Pop-A-Balloon" game. Unfortunately for Muff, his prostate had been acting up and he missed the target completely, instead urinating on a local police officer and his wife. As the subsequent high-pitched screams provided him with more than sufficient evidence as well as indications of the severity of his error, Muff then attempted to escape by clambering down from the scaffolding structure using a Spiderman technique he had seen on television but was apprehended when his overalls became entangled on a strut. I believe he did about 90 days in county for that one.

we went to Six Flags in St.Louis a few weeks back. It was 'ok'. I was expecting a lot
more. I suppose their coasters were fun. The Boss was the best of the bunch.

I thought the part itslef was a bit average. in a lot of ways I think Worlds of Fun is better.

I hope to get to Cedar Point some day.
