Chase Coffman will have surgery after all. Paul Coffman, the Missouri All-American tight end’s father, has told The Star that his son will have a screw inserted into the fifth metatarsal bone of his left foot on Tuesday.

"This will help to heal faster and ensure to the NFL scouts that it won’t happen again," Paul Coffman said.

Chase Coffman sustained the injury -- commonly referred to as a Jones fracture -- on MU’s final play of overtime in the Tigers' 30-23 Alamo Bowl victory over Northwestern.

The prognosis is Coffman should be on the sidelines for no more than four weeks. That would allow him to return in time for the NFL combine in February and MU's pro days in March.

He's had a lot of problems with that foot. I hope he heals okay.

Good for Chase. Wish him well. I'd love to see him as a Chief, but we've got a lot of holes to fill.
