Henson

Missouri Coach Gary Pinkel has targeted LSU tight ends coach Josh Henson as a possible addition to his coaching staff, the Tribune has learned from multiple sources. Henson, 33, a former Oklahoma State offensive lineman, is also LSU’s recruiting coordinator.

Henson just wrapped up his fourth season at LSU under Tigers Coach Les Miles after spending the four previous seasons (2001-04) working for Miles at Oklahoma State, where Henson also coached tight ends and coordinated the Cowboys’ recruiting efforts.

Attempts to reach Henson at his home in Baton Rouge, La., were unsuccessful, though a family member said he’s attending the American Football Coaches Association Convention in Nashville. The annual convention runs from Sunday through Wednesday at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel.

Late last month, it was reported by some media outlets that Henson would be relieved of his recruiting coordinator duties at LSU as Miles was prepared to hire former Mississippi Coach Ed Orgeron to take on that role.

However, Tennessee moved in and hired Orgeron first. Miles has since shaken up his LSU coaching staff, adding three new assistants in recent weeks.

Henson is widely considered one of the nation’s premier recruiters. LSU’s 2009 collection of verbal commitments is currently ranked No. 1 by Rivals.com. (Why would Miles drop the recruiting coordinator duties from Henson's plate if the Tigers have had so much success under his watch?

Beats me, but I'm guessing it was an attempt to sweeten the pot to lure Orgeron ... that is, if those media reports were accurate.)

Pinkel’s staff has had a vacancy since offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Dave Christensen accepted the head-coaching position at Wyoming. Quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator David Yost was subsequently promoted to offensive coordinator. Should Henson join Missouri's staff, tight ends coach Bruce Walker could be re-assigned to coach the line, leaving the tight ends job to Henson.

Here is Henson’s bio (http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=28715&SPID=2164&DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=175221&Q_SEASON=2008) from LSU’s official team Web site.

Fuckin-A!

Maybe, just maybe, Pinkel got the memo about bulking up your squad SEC-style. And by that I mean get the skinny guys off the field. The 12-South loves their bean-poles and though Texas prevailed over OSU, the more you can make your team bigger and meaner? The better for MU in the 12.

It would be a great start.
