View Full Version : Chiefs Hypothetical: You're Pioli, which of the coaches on the current staff would you keep?

Assuming Herm is out, I would let any of the D coaches go. STARTING with the much over-rated Crumrie. From the O I would perhaps keep Price on potential and the fact that he did a nice enough job with the WRs. I would consider keeping Chan depending on the offensive philosophy of the new HC. The rest, I would line up against the EXIT door, with Dick Curl taking post.

What do you think?

If I'm Pioli, I'd wait to make any moves on assistant coaches until I talk to my new head coach. If he wants to clean house, fine. But if he wants to retain anybody (which I doubt he will), that's his call.

No one, I want a 100% clean slate. Gibbs and Price are the only 2 I'd even consider.

Gailey is the only one that IMO would deserve serious consideration. Especially if you are going to look at keeping Thigpen as starter. I think that Pioli is going to go defense like his father in law in the first round of the draft. So I look for Gailey to stay on as either OC or some kind of support role to help the transistion.

If you want a premier HC you have to let them have a say in the final decision with who is on HIS staff, so Pioli shouldn't fire or keep anyone.

I think he has to show his new HC the same courtesy he was shown by Clark. Whomever takes the job needs to have input into who the suboordinate coaches will be. Not just have them forced upon him like Mangini on Clevelands new GM.

If Spags comes on board, I believe he might keep Gailey.

Gailey is a maybe. He's shown flashes of brilliance but he's also had his dumb moments. It's yet to be determined if the collective football IQ of our "former" staff rubbed off on him any.

I though of Gibbs a little too when I posted the thread. But just because our ST was a bit better than the horrible previous ones, I didn't think they did all that great. I might be wrong though. How did our ST rank in the NFL?

Gibbs was our CB coach.....

And I'm pretty sure our ST sucked once again.

hire a new HC and leave his assistants up to him.. whoever he would want to keep

(although I hope at least all D coachs are gone)

Shit. You are right. I was typing Gibbs, but I was seeing the ST coach in my mind. Totally embarrasing.

This is just like the threads discussing which head coach Clark should hire back before we had a GM. Premature speculation. Pioli isn't likely going to be the guy picking the assistant coaching staff, it's going to be whoever the new head coach is. My bet would be that it's a total house cleaning.

They should televise all of the coaches leaving at once. It'd be the greatest thing I've ever seen. Shit....I'd pay to see it.

I really misworded the title. I really meant to get a feel of what coaches you the fans wouldn't mind kept. De-emphasize the Pioli part in your replies.

Id consider keeping Gailey. i like him he showed us something this year. He's creative and a playmaker.

He is the only guy I'd consider keeping. The rest of them can be shown the door.

OK I fixed the title. My brain farts today may be the result of the hangover from the euphoria of yesterday's news. Although I drank nothing but pop and juice last night. Bear with me please until my brain restarts.

Now back to the regular program as scheduled....

Krumrie first. I was really sold on the hype about his hand-slap gimmic. Now I know better. I think we actually have better talent on our D-line than this guy showed us.

GM doesn't keep anyone

the HC might consider keeping Gailey,Gibbs and Price

Gailey did a pretty good job of creating an offense on-the-fly IN SPITE OF having Herm "QB killer" has a boss
Gibbs ran all season with a bunch of rookies in the defensive backfield
Price our wide receivers are playing decent and he had to work with several n00bies and/or castoffs
