Meh.

You apparently never saw the fight between the St. Louis Blues and the Philadelphia Flyers back in the 70's.

One of the Plager brothers jumped into the stands to defend Al Arbour, the HC, who had been attacked by a fan.

Fights in the 70's were in a completely different league than anything we see today.

which team was winning the game at that point? the announcer said it was 5-0. Whenever one team is winning big the other team starts to get real chippy, always happens. Happened last night in my league basketball game, the other team was throwing elbows and bodies around, but there was no fight.. and WE won by 20 :)

The team in white (Shreveport) was winning 5-0.

I was at a Topeka Scarecrows game once back in the day.... and they were playing the Wichita Thunder. They were "rivals" but mostly due to the fact that they resided in the same state. Wichita always had the better team.

But the game I was at, there were over 20 majors called. They ejected so many players that Topeka didn't have enough men to finish the game, and they called it with 5 minutes or so left in the 3rd. The huge fight that finally caused the game to be called started with the Scarecrows goalie chucking his gloves and skating the length of the ice to the Thunder's goalie. They duked it out hardcore for quite a while, and the Crows goalie ended up leaving on a stretcher... At that point, all hell was breaking loose and the benches emptied. There were police officers on the ice, slipping and falling and trying to break things up. Blood everywhere.... several players were unconscious laying about the ice.

It was the craziest thing I'd ever seen at a sporting event. I had a girlfriend with me who had never seen a hockey game.... and she couldn't believe that it was considered a "sport". She didn't last long.....

I really can't get why this game should be filled with fights.

I really can't get why this game should be filled with fights.

Fights are used in retribution for cheap shots on skilled players, to turn the momentum of a game around and hundreds of various other reasons. I'm condoning all out brawls or stick fights but there are reasons for fighting in hockey.

If you don't like it, please do not watch the game.

Don't even need to hit play.

As a St. Louis Blues fan, I know EXACTLY what that clip is going to be.

Steve Tuttle's skate cutting Clint Malarchuk's jugular.

Had he been tending goal at the other end of the rink, they wouldn't have gotten to him in time...

Scary.

Looks like a really big cheapshot on Lemieux, even hitting him when he curled into a fetal position.

I can actually say I watched that happen live. On TV at least. Don't think I'll ever forget it. I was at my step-uncle's house, who actually introduced me to hockey. Sitting in his basement watching satellite. He was a huge Blues fan. That was actually one of, if not the, first full hockey game I ever watched. It sounds pretty morbid, but that game is kinda what got me hooked on hockey... Not in the fact that I saw that and wanted it to ever happen again, but it was such a crazy unexpected event that it really stuck with me and got me curious about the graceful/violent sport called hockey. Controlled chaos on skates I think is the way my step-uncle described it....

I haven't followed hockey well lately, but I remember the days where guys were at the end of the bench, to fight, Bob Probert, Brad may, Twist, other just straight up goons, now some of the goods can play along with fight.

I actually do not watch it. But I come across videos like this one from time to time. If you watch the game for the fights and for the blood we just saw in these videos then please, you need to talk to someone.

Everyone of my friends that I got watching hockey and they say they watch for the fights are lying. You watch hockey because it is one of, if not the greatest game to watch live. It's the fastest game there is and it's physical. Mixing the speed of the game with the hits and some of the unbelievable goals that are scored makes it unlike anyother. You don't watch for the fights, but fighting has it's place, always has...hopefully always will.

Not really, if you watch the beginning of the tape you see Lemieux hit Draper from behind putting his face into the boards breaking his jaw. McCarty was the scrapper on the wings who took it upon himself to go after Claude. Lemieux was such a punk he curled up on the floor like a girl. Lemieux was dirty his entire career.
