Been doing some more research as of late for an article I want to write about DT and the hall....

Just One tidbit I've discovered in breaking stats down....

Sacks per game, career.

Derrick Thomas 0.74
Lawerence Taylor 0.72
Kevin Greene 0.72

I included Greene because when I saw he had 160 career sacks, that just floored me.

Steve Young got absolutely crushed on that safety.

Another favorite DT play of mine - '97 or so, playing the Raiders out there - draw play to little lightning quick Napoleon Kauffman. Derrick hits him in the backfield, misses the tackle. Kauffman shoots downfield 30 yards or so, making like two cuts to get away from defenders, then gets tackled from behind by Derrick Thomas. DT was on his fucking back when Kauffman juked past him, and Derrick was able to get up, recover, and tackle him from behind. Sure, he missed the tackle in the backfield, but I'll be damned if I've seen another defender make a play like that since.

Favorite story of DT - On his radio show, it was the week after we had played the Cardinals, with Dave Kreig as their QB. Derrick told of how he came around the corner, wrapped Kreig up for the sack, and ended up under him, with Krieg facing away. Derrick said he laid there for a second, then said "Is that you, Derrick?" "Yeah Dave, it's me." He went on to say that he couldn't repeat what Krieg said, but it was one of the best laughs he had ever had on the field while playing. Always loved that story.

The play against that cheating Bronco at about 7:44 is my favorite DT sack ever. DT got pushed upfield and Smellway fled in terror running to his right. here are some music suggestions:

" Hit me with your Best Shot"

" Lovin' Every minute of It"

You could have used " Alan Parsons--Sirrius" to open the video up, to get the video in a up beat mode.

" Here without You-- 3 Doors Down"

" Don't Fear the Reaper- Blue Oyster Cult"

"Don't Stop- Fleetwood Mac"

"Carry on my Wayward Son-- Kansas"

The video editing was very good. Change the music and this clip will rock, hell send it to the Chiefs for the jumbo-tron!

But only after you change the music.....

Kick ass video. That one of him bringing Marcus Allen down for a loss in the backfield while being held at 6:35 is amazing. He never got much praise on parts of his game other than his pass rushing. Watching that video gave made the hair on my arms stand up and reminded me of what playing at Arrowhead used to mean to the opposing team. He is absolutely my favorite Chief I have ever seen play and met him numerous times when I lived a block away from him in Independence. Here's to Pioli bring the defense back to where it was in the 90's and this time having an offense that is equal.:toast:

Ha nice man gratz. All that hard work paid off.

I think this is the event:

JOIN IN THE FUN AT KANSAS CITY’S CHANCE TO CELEBRATE “D.T.’s” ROAD TO THE HALL

On Friday, July 31, 2009 from 5:00-8:30 PM the Third and Long Foundation will host a free “Celebration” recognizing Thomas’ impending Hall of Fame Induction. Being held at City Market in Kansas City, Missouri, this free event will feature autographs from Chiefs Alumni players in addition to visits by Chiefs Cheerleaders and KC Wolf, music, inflatables and face painting. Derrick Thomas Hall of Fame merchandise as well as food and drinks will be on sale at this festival-style event. The evening will be capped off with a special program allowing Derrick’s teammates and friends to share their memories of this all-time great.

Apparently Carl Peterson has seen this, and loved it.

And plans for a larger audience to see it...soon.

Be sure NFL films is okay with you borrowing their work.

I'd say it's a good day to bump this.

I'd say it's a good day to bump this.

Apparently your work here was WAY better than what the Chiefs actually did for the ceremony. You should submit your work to them...

Hard to believe it's been that long. RIP, Derrick.

On a happier note, today's also the day 48 years ago Lamar announced he was moving the Texans to KC.

I didn't really get to watch much of him; and by the time I was really into football, I was in California missing a lot of KC games.

WOW....dude is unreal.
