NU vs. Missouri game set for Thursday night kick
NU Sports Information

ESPN announced on Monday that next fall's Big 12 North Division showdown between Nebraska and Missouri will take place on Thursday, Oct. 8 in Columbia. The Big 12 opener for both schools will be televised nationally by ESPN with kickoff set for 8 p.m. Central Time.

The contest had been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, however through a mutual agreement between ESPN, the Big 12 Conference, the University of Missouri and the University of Nebraska the game was moved to the network's Thursday night package.

"We are looking forward with great anticipation to returning to Columbia for our first Thursday night telecast since 1992," said Dave Brown, ESPN Vice President of Programming.

"We greatly appreciate all of the assistance we received from Nebraska, the Big 12 Conference and especially from Mike Alden and the University of Missouri in making this happen. Nebraska at Missouri is a terrific addition to our 2009 Thursday night schedule."

The 2009 season will also mark the third consecutive season the Nebraska-Missouri contest has been televised on ESPN. Each of the last two meetings have been Saturday night national telecasts on the network.

I'm OK with this if I don't have class that night.

Huh. They're really trying to buld up that rivalry. Should be a great atmosphere.

And no more bullshit game winning illegal touchdown catches, if you please.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Nebraska's chances. They will have a new QB.

Mizzou loses a recruiting weekend because of this.

Mizzou is going to take a step back next year, I'm afraid. I'm predicting that we will have the year KU had this past year in '09. And Nebraska came along much faster under Pelini than I expected they would. They aren't going to be any kind of pushover, and might contend for the north.

Should be a wild atmosphere at "The Zou"

Posted via Mobile DeviceThe only reason that Kansas may be picked to win the North is because of their returning QB. But don't count out the Huskers breathing heavy down their necks. Pert near the whole defense will be back and vastly improved since they spent this past fall learning the defense. And as I seem to recall they finished 2nd in the Big 12 on defense. Worst to 2nd in Pelini's 1st year ain't nothing to sneeze at. On offense they should pretty much stay the same except they need to replace Ganz. They recruited Cody Green out of Texas but I sort of expect him to redshirt. Unless Green plays lights out and vaults over Lee for 2nd string I expect that Patrick Witt will be the opening day QB and he's going into his 3rd yr. Pelini redshirted over 50 kids this past season so there will be young experienced backups at all positions.
I expect Nebraska to vie for the North crown along with Kansas and Missouri.

That said Thursday night games SUCK!!

My question for KU is how will they replace three starting linebackers.

80 yard bombs to Dezmon Briscoe!

They can have long passes if Nebraska is running the ball and chewing up the clock.

Screw that. I want to see the KU-MU rivalry back in primetime on ABC.
