I heard that MU has soldout the rest of their home games this season. I'm going tomorrow so I thought I'd make sure there was a thread.

Missouri looks to stretch its winning streak to five as the Tigers return home to face Nebraska in a battle of teams looking to make NCAA tournament runs.

Missouri is 21-and-4 and 8-and-2 in Big 12 play.
Nebraska is 15-and-7 and 5-and-4.
Missouri leads the series 122-91, including 67-25 in Columbia.

PowerMizzou.com has the preview:

Nebraska starts 6-foot-8 Chris Balham (http://missouri.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=78586), but does not feature another starter over 6-foot-3. The Huskers are 11th in the league in both total rebounds and rebounding margin.

Defensive Dominance: Despite their rebounding issues, the Huskers may be the best defensive team in the Big 12. Nebraska gives up just 58.5 points per game, the best mark in the league by four points a game. The Huskers are second in the league in both steals and turnover margin. Missouri leads in both categories.

Balanced Attack: Not one individual scores as many as a dozen points a game for the Huskers. But four starters average between seven and 12 points a game, led by Ade Dagunduro (http://missouri.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=385819). Nebraska is one of just two teams without a player in the top 20 in scoring in the league.

<CENTER>Three Things You Need to Know About the Tigers</CENTER>

Ice Taylor: Twice in the last three games, Missouri has found itself tied in the final 30 seconds. In each instance, the Tigers turned to Zaire Taylor (http://missouri.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=411040) to win the game. At Texas, Taylor hit a driving layup and drew a foul to give Missouri a 68-65 lead. The Tigers won 69-65. Against Kansas, Taylor's jumper from the right side put Mizzou up 62-60 over Kansas with 1.3 seconds to play. The Jayhawks missed a last-second prayer and Taylor was the hero again.

Eyeing a Title: Mike Anderson (http://missouri.rivals.com/viewcoach.asp?Coach=1208) likes to say early in the season that his team "is going to be in the hunt for something." For the first time, that something is a conference championship. Mizzou trails Kansas by a half-game in the Big 12 standings and is behind Oklahoma by a game-and-a-half. Mizzou still has a game remaining with each of those teams. Oklahoma hosts Texas Tech and Kansas travels to K-State on Saturday.

<!--Start Ade Dagunduro Mizzou 2001 Image--><SCRIPT language=Javascript>document.write(insertImage('http://vmedia.rivals.com/uploads/928/744902.jpg', '744902.jpg', 0, 267, 200, 1, 'Lyons and Carroll combined for just 19 points in the first game against the Huskers.', '', 1234542258000, 'Ade Dagunduro Mizzou 2001', 928, 'Align=Right'));</SCRIPT><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=208 align=right border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width=6 rowSpan=3>http://vmedia.rivals.com/images/spacer1.gif</TD><TD width=202>http://vmedia.rivals.com/uploads/928/744902.jpg</TD></TR><TR><TD height=3>http://vmedia.rivals.com/images/spacer1.gif</TD></TR><TR><TD align=middle>Lyons and Carroll combined for just 19 points in the first game against the Huskers.</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><!-- End Ade Dagunduro Mizzou 2001 Image-->Home Sweet Home: Missouri has won all 15 of its home games this season and 16 in a row overall. The Tigers have not just won over that stretch, they have dominated. Missouri is outscoring its opponents by an average of 26.8 points per game during the winning streak, including a 21.5-point average margin in five Big 12 home games this season. The home-court winning streak is tied for the seventh-longest active streak in the nation and the seventh-best in school history. A win on Saturday could tie the Tigers for the nation's fourth-longest home court streak.

<CENTER>Three Keys to the Game</CENTER>

Run it Up: Nebraska likes to play games in the fifties and sixties, just as it did in the first matchup against Missouri. The 51 points the Tigers scored in that game are a season-low, and one of just two times anyone has held Mizzou under 60. The Tigers lead the league in scoring offense at better than 83 points per game. Nebraska is giving up just 58.5 and scoring only 66.5.

Hold on to the Ball: Saturday matches the Big 12's two best teams both at protecting the ball on offense and taking it away on defense. Nebraska averages nine steals a game, Missouri 10.76. Mizzou's turnover margin is +6.88 per game, Nebraska's +6.18. No other team is better than +3.88. The Huskers average fewer turnovers than anyone in the league while Missouri is fourth in that category. The team that wins the turnover battle could very well win the game.

Forward Thinking: Leo Lyons (http://missouri.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=79909) and DeMarre Carroll (http://missouri.rivals.com/bviewplayer.asp?Player=48561) have a distinct advantage in this game. In Lincoln, Lyons had a big second half to lead the Tigers back from an 18-point deficit. But Carroll took just six shots and scored a season-low seven points. Missouri must find a way to get the ball into their big men. If the Tigers can do so, Nebraska has no one that should be able to defend the talented pair, both of whom rank in the league's top 15 in scoring. Lyons and Carroll combined for 19 points on 5-for-13 shooting in the 56-51 loss earlier this year. The duo could double that output on Saturday.

Official Prediction: For the first time in a long time, the Tigers play a game that almost no one expects them to lose. Missouri is a different team than the Huskers played last month, and a different team at home. The Tigers should be able to force Nebraska to play an up-tempo game in front of a crowd that should be ready to go for a third straight sellout. This one has the makings of a laugher for Mizzou. Doc Sadler (http://missouri.rivals.com/viewcoach.asp?Coach=1214) has done a great job this season, but the Huskers' best road win came at Texas Tech. This is a game where Nebraska will have to be nearly perfect. Don't see it happening.

Missouri rolls 77-59.

PowerMizzou.com will provide complete coverage from Mizzou Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Scary game. The Nubs are a small team so it's tough to get the press going against them.

Hopefully we are patient enough to work it in low to Carroll and Lyons, and eventually we can wear them down.

This is how new I am to basketball:

The NBA Championship last year was the first game I ever watched from start to finish. It was such a train wreck for LA, I couldn't turn my eyes away. And, I was on the treadmill at the gym, so you gotta' have something to watch.

The biggest difference I saw between that game and the game against KU( the second full game I ever watched ), was the pacing.

MU was playing so rushed, so hurried, and so geeked-out, it seemed to really hurt their ability to score and control the game. KU was more poised, but I guess it didn't help them in the end.

Mizzou's crowd was as amped up as it's been in YEARS.

The problem is... that, plus the ESPN spotlight, totally shook Mizzou. They're not used to that kind of pressure. They weren't ready for prime time.

But... at half time, they refocused... calmed down... and went to work.

That was impressive, IMO.

I read some quotes about Mike Anderson's halftime pep talk... this is paraphrased, but it went something like this.

"Calm down! Ya'll are at home! Just go play... let it go."

Brilliant, IMO. They didn't need an ass chewing... they needed to loosen up, and just go play... and they did.

True. It would be nice if they could get all of that "wired" out of their system before Tourney Time. I'd really like to see them make a statement this year.

Easy win for you guys IMO. Every NU fan I talk to says the same thing. Every game they win, they win out of luck. Which I think supports what I have seen from them this year. Soooooo much they do has to be working succinctly in order for them to pull out a W.

Their offense primarily consists of them standing around for 25 seconds and then setting a ball screen and getting a shot. That shot has to be there, or the rest of their offense can't take up the slack. Given the defensive effort I saw in the KU game, you should be fine.

That being said, NU has been much more effective this year than in previous years. I can't really draw a conclusion as to why. Maybe just a year of experience.

But it should be an easy win for Mizzou.

Tell ya what.

Have your coach become a coke-head and start nailing your players girlfriends and forcing them out of the program. Then have said coach recruit woman beaters and rapists. After said coach gets called out, have your University President and his wife contact aforementioned woman beater in prison and start calling white women crackers. Watch your team get nailed with a 3-year suspension and see your crackhead coach fired by an underling because your AD doesn't have the stones to make the call. Finally, watch as your brand new arena is named after the pampered-ass daughter of a billionaire donor (who hates your displaced legend of a coach for not giving his relatives enough playing time), only to have her found out as a cheater and eventually laughed off campus.

Then see if your boys sell out.

The Quin Snyder era was exponentially more damaging than anyone from outside the program can understand. To see the venom, the vitriole, all the garbage that arose from his time in Columbia, you really had to live here. I'm surprised fans have come back as quickly as they have, to be honest. I'm actually pretty proud of the fanbase. They've rewarded a hard working team and a coach that fulfilled his promises to the program in short order.

I know KU's never had the misfortunate of a miscreant like Snyder, but it's only but/for the grace of God. Snyder was as all-American as they came when he was hired. He was the top coaching get in the country that season. Had KU been looking for a coach, I'm sure he'd have been in Lawrence doing body shots of Co-eds and snorting lines in the locker room.

So spare me the righteous indignation, though it seems that's all you 'Beaker assholes really excel at.

Did Snyder really do all that? I'm sure KU players have done that but we're talking about the same university that lets its player cheat on academics cause there too stupid.

I don't have pictures of it, no. But the coke problem is just common knowledge around here and the thing with Linas Kleiza's girlfriend (and him surprisingly leaving the program) is nearly as universally accepted. I have some friends in the university compliance department that have filled me in on a lot of it. It's a lot like Bob Knight throwing a plant at a secretary, nobody's ever come out and confirmed it, but it's met with a wink and a nod by everyone.

I have seen his behavior around campus, he was a slime. Ultimately there is enough smoke for it to be extremely credible. Regardless, 95% of the community believes it and perception is reality.

That doesn't even get into the recruiting violations from Lane Odom and Tony Harvey, more Snyder boys.

He destroyed this program, I mean he absolutely dismantled it. A Southern Methodist style Death Penalty is the only thing that could have hurt the mens basketball program here more than Quin Snyder did.

They still play too soft offensively underneath.

That play by Tiller, where he got it clean underneath and then tried some crazy ass up and under was a perfect example. If he goes up strong there he's going to draw the foul. They just get way too cute.

And Denmon's really been playing like a frosh of late. It's a good thing we have Tiller and Taylor on hand b/c our freshman guards are not answering the bell.

Then Paul fouls the damn 3 point shooter.

The freshman guards need to be reigned in. They're the most susceptible to reading press clippings. English seems to still be playing within himself but Paul and Denmon are really playing poorly right now.

Time to crack some skulls.

But on the plus side, we're up 6. Usually when we'd come out this flat, we'd be down by 10 at half. We've played like crap and still have a fairly healthy lead. That's a big step for an ascending club, win without your A (or B) game.

It was pretty funny. MU would get by double digits. NU would make a run and get the game back down to six or so. Announcers would spend the next five minutes lavishing praise on how Sadler claws his way back int othe game. Rinse and repeat three or four times.

One announcer said three or four different times that we would prefer to take a shot the first 3 secs of the shot clock.

Apparently he didn't bother to watch any of our games before saying this, because we actually have a fairly patient offensive system even though we press.

Great win today. We really clamped down in the 2nd half.

Actually they mentioned both. At one point they showed some stats (steals, turnovers, etc) and MU was #1 in the Big 12 in assist ratio. They said that MU was also #2 in the nation in that category.

There are two ways this can go:

Lazy and resting on laurels can set in just in time to get spanked at Allen Wheat Depot( soon to be known as "Self Grata-spank Theatre" according to some on this board ) or,

The good Coach Anderson keeps noses to the grindstone, instills a Weathers-esque "Eye of the Tiger" in to these lads( yes Hamas, I was thinking of you when I coined that ), and shows up ready to play smooth and steady before sinking teeth in to jugular veins.
