Kansas City Chiefs
OFFSEASON STRATEGY
Admitting he has little knowledge of the players he is inheriting, Haley planned to spend the first weeks on the job meeting with Pioli and discussing what is on the shelf and what needs to be added in the personnel ranks.

Pioli himself spent his first weeks on the job doing the same with coach Herm Edwards before his firing, as well as with the offensive assistants who remained on the payroll after Edwards' Jan. 26 departure.

TOP THREE TEAM NEEDS

1. Pass rusher: After setting an NFL record for sack futility with only 10 sacks in 2008, the Chiefs desperately need people to pressure the quarterback, be they ends, linebackers or interior players. One player alone won't get it done. Finding at least two rushers in free agency or the draft is a top priority.

2. Receivers: TE Tony Gonzalez remains the team's only consistent receiving threat, and he would rather be traded to a contender. Kansas City has to find someone to provide a threat on the side away from Dwayne Bowe.

3. Quarterback: With the third overall pick, the Chiefs will have the chance to take a shot at a guy who could become the quarterback of the future they're talked about for years, but have never developed. Long-shot prospect Tyler Thigpen moved the team after his injury-related elevation last year, but managed to win only one game in 10 starts.

Personally, I would list LB higher than WR.

Seems like they lumped all our front seven into "Pass Rushers"...

Big revelation there.

However, I would also have listed OL & QB before WR.

agreed,
WR is several rungs down the ladder of need.

The Chiefs evaluation should have read like this:

The Kansas Chiefs need everything but a left tackle.

Woo, it's my birthday. Got some KC jammies!

Anywho....now that that's out of the way...

Maybe Haley and Pioli are thinking that the defense is so far from being good that by adding a WR now, it may cause us to at least put more points on the board and stay in games. Cuz the D wont, rush-backer or not

1- Pass rusher(s)
2- QB
3- O line

In that order

There is not a legitimate top 10 pass rusher in the 2009 draft.

There may not be a legitimate, game changing defensive player in the entire draft.

You know that's going to be bullshit.

There will be. He's just not a high-profile guy, yet.

There's a long snapper in there somewhere.

He's listing needs, not draft class strengthes and weaknesses.

(Holy fuck! Someone sees the big picture!)

ADDENDUM: Having a coaching staff that operates on the same page, and doesn't run a pile of shit defense where guys are assigned to do shit they shouldn't have been drafted for in the first place combined with a D-Coord with a distinct lack of "head up ass" generally improves the overall picture.

3. Receivers: See item number one. Quarterback with NON-noodle arm and roll-out skills generally helps up the game of receivers, be they serviceable, good or great.
F Fox's P, and did a fucking bang-up job doing so. :fire:

Hmmm. A good way to look at this might be to look at those positions that we have pretty much locked up with quality, contributing players and are okaaaayyyy. Let's see. There's cornerback. We're pretty good there. And left offensive guard. That's taken care of. And left offensive tackle. Unless you think that Albert needs to move to another position. Tight end, of course. Except Tony is at the end of his career. And one wide receiver spot is okay. And, let's see .... ....?

...? ...? Hmmm ...?

DE, RT, LB, QB, WR, DT, G, C, FB, S, CB......... in that order.

The refreshing thing is this...
A few months ago a poll was posted about team needs...

...and above all were listed GM, and HC.

So at least there is progress.
