View Full Version : Prayer Request scotland

seclark

scotland is my 3 year old grandaughter...she's been in the hospital all week w/pneumonia in both lungs. we thought she was getting better when they took her out of ccu last night. however, my wife just called and said they were life flighting her to st. louis because of issues w/her heart. scotland was born w/downs syndrome has had 4 heart surgeries and a pacemaker put in since she was born. she is the light of my life, and has turned me into a soft old man who can break down and cry just by seeing her suffer.

this post does not have to be stickied, but i'd appreciate any and all kind thoughts and prayers.

thanks,
sec

Prayers for her and your family. I have been through the kids with pneumonia thing, never fun at all. With everything else; man, my heart goes out to you.

Sec, the doctors never told us about it, but they do now have a pneumonia shot which is supposed to protect you for 5 years. We hit my son with it last year with no side effects.

Sometimes life works in mysterious, crappy ways. The best you can do is hold on, and know that there are lots of people (like us on here) that have your back emotionally.

I won't say I understand what you're going through, but I will say that I'm truly sad to hear about this, and hope for the best. And like someone said above... babies are resilient. They're tough as nails! :-)

not much of an update, but here's what little i know.

they canceled the helicopter flight and decided to take her to st. louis by ambulance. then, the ambulance got there and they told the parents they didn't have a rn for the trip and weren't prepared to take a small child that far under the circumstances. so they went ahead and sent the helicopter up from st. louis.(i know...clusterf@ck).

anyway...the parents left about 6pm and the wife and i stayed w/scotland until the copter crew got there and loaded her up about 6:30.

my son called about 9pm and said they all made it to childrens hospital and the staff started testing right off. said they planned on testing all night. they do know that the pneumonia is no longer a problem, but are very concerned about her heart.

the wife and i plan on heading down this afternoon.

thanks again for all the replies and messages. thoughts and prayers.

again, thank you all for the kind expressions.
i think i have good news. since this morning, she's eaten, drank, and most importantly smiled.
she's still a very sick little girl, but it sounds like the heart problems are under control. i think/hope the pneumonia thing is getting knocked out too.
the doctors say they've really done nothing, but the whole staff there is amazing.

i know there were a ton of prayer and positive thoughts and wishes. i know.
thank you,

talked w/her father(my son) this morning. yesterday was the best day she's had in the last 2 weeks. i'm thinking we've got this whipped.

he also told me to watch the mail...he and his wife left the hospital in kville the other night and averaged around 90 to 95 mph all the way to st. louis. said he also ran through a few red lights, not paying any attention to the cameras.

they drove my wifes car down there.

It appears that you and I share a similar fate, Mr. seclark. The beautiful and witty Mrs. FAX has never met a speed limit she didn't despise. Ironically, she also goes through brakes like no one I've ever known. Apparently, it has something to do with Newton's 2nd law but I'm unsure as to why.
