ROFL
McDaniels giving Wiegmann a break

A Broncos offensive player who just played in the Pro Bowl is not expected to report for the team's offseason conditioning program Monday.

Starting center Casey Wiegmann has worked out an arrangement with coach Josh McDaniels that he doesn't have to attend a significant portion of the voluntary workouts.

What's that? Hey, not everything in the Broncos' world revolves around the Jay Cutler controversy. For Wiegmann, entering a 14th season has its privileges. Before heading off to his first Pro Bowl last month, Wiegmann met with McDaniels to explain how the offseason workout sessions devised by strength and conditioning coach Rich Tuten may be a bit much for a player who will turn 36 in July.

"I've been through a lot of conditioning

programs, and Rich Tuten's is pretty tough," Wiegmann said last month. "We talked about backing off the offseason conditioning program."

Because of age?

"For age and for battered body," Wiegmann said.

Wiegmann's absence from the offseason program has nothing to do with the fact he has yet to receive a contract extension, according to his agent, Joe Linta. Wiegmann is scheduled to make the veteran minimum $845,000 salary this season. Negotiations began during the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis last month but have yet to resume.

"We realize the Broncos have more pressing issues going on today," Linta said. "But we are 100 percent confident the Broncos will do right by Casey."
